A fine program of seminal French shorts. Zero for Conduct is a story of revolt at a boarding school and massively influential on films from If… to Flirting. One of several shorts Resnais made about painters early in his career, Van Gogh focuses on the artist's work, rather than personal life. A sort of anti-travelogue, A Propo de Nice subtly satirizes the French resort town.
