To the poster below: let's be more respectful with our criticism.

There was some disorganization within her chronologically organized course plan. She points out some interesting things about them music business. Very nice professor, really does not want to fail you but there is a lot of reading she assigns. Both midterm and final are multiple choice but she does curve to the highest score so hopefully you score near the top. There is extra credit and an essay where everyone gets 100 (worth 30% of grade). So overall it's ok

DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU'RE LOOKING FOR A GOOD GE. I feel so sorry for the jazz majors that have to take this class, I totally understand why they complain about this one class. Even as a non-music person I understand their pain. Very disorganized and she makes inferences (very incomplete inferences) that only the Af American students understand so I basically miss half the content of the course. If you love jazz, blues, or any music do not take this class.

The course material for this class is extremely insteresting, but the work load is absurd for a non-major class. For the midterm alone, there is over 16 hours of listening examples to be memorized. And though she is a wealth of knowledge, the professor seems to get flustered in her lectures: jumping from one point to another and then returning to a previous idea as well as reading huge passages directly from the course reader. The course reader is also completely unorganized and therefore makes it nearly impossible to refer back to readings without difficulty. I recommend this class to people who can effectively absorb a lot of music in a short period of time.
