Evaluations (evaluate this professor)

I was totally satisfied with the classes I took with this professor. I don't know what people are talking about but his classes were a good GPA booster and not the typical boring lectures that other professors provide students with. We watched videos, had interactive group discussions, and what was on the exams was practically all in his class notes. He always made extra office hours for students who couldn't go to his normal office hours. Definitely do not pass up the opportunity to take Groper's classes. I give him two thumbs up!

This was a great class. The course material was easy to understand and the professor did a good job in teaching it to the class. It was the only class that I wanted to stay awake in and show up to!

Professor Groper always made time for the students after class and was willing to help anyone who needed in regards to the class. I loved his classes. He was a cool professor and had fun assignments. Prof Groper taught the class well and provided the class with enough info to do well on the exams.

Most people who made bad and rude comments about him are the ones who were lazy and never showed up to class. This was one of the most interesting courses that I took with Professor Groper. He made the class fun and had projects where you can pick your own group and assignment. His class notes were easy to understand and he would even write out an outline for everyone on the board. Very fair exams too! I definitely think you should take this professor for a course at ucla!

I think it should be against UCLA's policy to allow such unqualified professors to "teach" us. His class was a waste of time, money and energy.

Please consider other options for Comm 150 unless you are EXTREMELY patient. This class will tax you, emotionally and mentally. The midterm was a total farce; he will guarantee that certain items will not be on the exam, then he'll test you on them. It's of little consequence, though, because the material he implores you to read in that overpriced excuse for a textbook will differ from the lecture notes, which he'd rather you study anyway, making reading from the textbook a complete waste. Groper's main concern is that his student do well on an end-of-term research paper. Fair enough, but be prepared to learn how to do it yourself, even when help is available. The TA was terrible. Showed absolutely no concern for student learning, was self-absorbed, condescending, and misguided. Was late for EVERY section, including a half-hour late for the one-hour review session before the midterm. Take this class at your own risk.

Prof. Groper was so boring. His lectures put me to sleep. He does not test on any information in the book except for a few that he tries to slide in the test. The wording on his tests do not make any sense and trick you. The whole class is based on the paper. The worst part is that he makes you turn in a bunch of assignments and parts of the paper but there are no comments at all. So you don't know what to fix or not to fix. I went to office hours to seek help to guide me in the right direction but he is so ambiguous. The class is basically based on the final paper. He doesn't even seem to care about the information that he is lecturing on so how are the students supposed to like it.

DON'T TAKE GROPER! He is egotistical, unhelpful and condescending. He makes people feel stupid by picking them out of the crowd and commenting on their mistakes. Going to his office hours doesn't work. He is an embarrassment to UCLA. I worked hard, didn't learn anything and was not satisfied at all with my grade. Everything comes down to the research paper- which is very unstructured because his directions for the assignments conflict with the TA's ideas. Oh yeah, the section is completely unnecessary also-- we would sit there for only 15 min. while the TA wasted our time talking about unrelated matters. DON'T TAKE GROPER

The unbearable content and style of Professor Groper's lectures have been well documented ny others, so I will address another issue in an attempt to dissuade you from taking this course. The most important aspect of his 150 course is the research paper. My main beef was this; Professor Groper implored people to come to office hours and meet with him after class. Yet Professor Groper's decision to have office hours AT THE SAME TIME AS ONE OF THE DISCUSSIONS, and his reluctance to correspond via email about the paper made it exceptionally difficult to get his feedback. After class meetings were hindered by the fact that everyone and their mom had to try to use that opportunity to speak to him (on account of his unavailability at other times). Thus, we were lucky to get five minutes with him during this time. Please, for the sake of your own sanity, do not take 150 with Groper.

Professor Groper is UCLA's biggest shame. Any positive comments made on this page were probably written by Professor Groper himself in attempt to salvage any sort of reputation as a serious teacher. Professor Groper is an irresponsible fool who has somehow gotten to the position where he can ruin other people's GPAs and academic progress. Lecture: Two hours of Professor Groper somehow working in alcohol and pornography jokes when discussing "research methods" What very very little research concepts he does mention, could be summed up in less than 15 minutes each lecture. Instead you sit and watch him ramble off inappropriate "jokes." This would be fine if he graded accordingly. Instead, he will lead you into studying the completely wrong material for the midterm, falsely say he will curve it, and basically hand out whatever grade he feels like giving you. Forget about having any control over doing well. Professor Groper, in all his dull-mindedness, will take that away from you. His lack of knowledge in this feild makes it apalling he is a professor here. He contradicts himself all over his lectures, so you cannot even study your notes (and he will tell you explicitely not to study the book) If you ask any questions, he will answer in a condescending tone and try to get the whole class to laugh in your face, and then he will mumble something about not knowing the answer. He makes you buy the workbook for the class. You will buy it, take three pages from it the whole quarter, and never look at it again. He has absolutely no concern for student learning... Although through all his jokes and flirty comments he seems to care about getting students to like him. He seems quite oblivious to the fact that the lecture hall is always full of fuming, frusterated, angry students. Again, try to approach him about this and he will give you the most condescending and haughty answer back. DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE
