Contrary to some of the comments below. Professor Lopez is one of the best professors at UCLA. Here are the reasons why:

1. In general, his lectures are extremely organized with concise powerpoint presentations
helping students to better understand the course material. I consider him one of the best lecturers
at UCLA.

2. His lectures are entertaining, especially in
Sociology 186 (Latin American Societies) with funny side commentaries.

3. The amount of work assigned is reasonable. The grading is not too difficult. As long as you put
effort in the class, you will at least earn a B+.

4. He is a very nice person. He is approachable,
relaxed and extremely understanding of students.
He does not get upset when students don't participate or pay attention in class. I feel bad
for him that the quality of some students are not very good despite his effort and the interesting class content.

I don't know why some people gave him a bad review. But, I would highly recommend Professor Lopez to anyone who is willing to learn and put forth the effort.
