Professor Shaffer was good. I learned a lot from her and her class was engaging. I was unhappy with my final grade- a B -but other than that, I liked everything about her class and I enjoyed her teaching style. The topic of the class was "Cross-Generational Currents" and we had 3 big essays and a bunch of other assignments that counted to our final grade. I would recommend her!

Professor Shaffer was excellent! I really recommend her. I wasn't looking forward to English at all. I'm a math person and English classes usually bore me. However, Professor Shaffer was engaging and for the most part assigned decently interesting reads. The workload wasn't bad. She gave small assignments due every class, but they were short and straightforward. After the first two, I got 100% on all of them, and they took 45 minutes max to do. They are also helpful as they are usually in preparation for the upcoming paper. She gives 3 papers and no tests. And she's a very fair grader. She reads your rough draft and tells you exactly what you need to fix, so definitely go to see her before you turn it in. Follow her corrections and do exactly what she says and you'll get a great grade. She's also very nice and cares about her students. Take Shaffer! Especially if you're not an English person. She's fabulous.

Professor Shaffer was one of my favorite overall at UCLA.
Her classes are in an intimate setting, and she gets to know each of her students pretty well by the end of the quarter.
I found her grading to be fair, but a little on the hard side.
She gives out a lot of small assignments each class, and while it is kind of a pain doing them, they are all worth it in the end, because all the assignments correspond with the big essays.
Our topic was about today's generation the Millenials, a topic I knew barely anything about but got to know a great deal during the duration of this course. I really recommend this professor if you are willing to put forth the effort to learn.
Her step by step approach to writing is also something you do not want to miss out on.
