Evaluations (evaluate this professor)

Professor Finis makes himself available, but his accent is a problem. I know he can't help it, but Calculus is already abstract and confusing (at times), so during lecture you find yourself trying to figure out what he is saying, rather than the problem, itself. He's a real nice professor, though.

I had Finis for 31A, and with a good calculus background, I bombed the first midterm because the problems were way harder than the hw and the class examples. I stopped going to lectures and read the book myself. Study the abstract problems, and don't just know the method, but know the theorems and the whole concept. Finis has a sharp accent and is hard to follow at times. However, he is a friendly person and seems concerned with students. Very young, and not too experienced. Knows his stuff but has trouble teaching it to students.

Professor Finis seems both highly intelligent and very friendly. He is, however, quite difficult to follow at times. The tests are far more difficult that the homework questions and example done in lecture (like all other math classes, I'm sure). In short, nice teacher, difficult class.

Finis was my math31a professor for fall '00. he was one of those geniuses that liked to talk to the wall and to the chalkboard. he looks friendly so i went to him during office hour and when i (not a math genius and illiterate in the language of math) asked him a question. he gave me complicated graphs and math vocabs that was hard for me to follow. so in brief, he looked friendly, he's willing to help, but very hard to understand because of his accent. a nice guy, but hard to follow.

had him for both math31a and math31b. homework questions are easy, tests are ridiculously difficult... on average about 2 times harder than the hardest homework questions. the example questions he chooses for lecture are ok, but he should make available harder practice questions or dumb down the tests. seems like a genuinely nice guy, and his accent can be entertaining at times.

had him for math31B, he has an accent, so hard to understand, and even frustrating sometimes, but outside of lecture hall, he's available and friendly
