Course(s) Taken: Math 32A
We had a tiny class of 33 students since everyone read the reviews and didnt want to take him. I didnt think his teaching was bad, we were ahead of the other classes in material and everyting was thoroughly covered. The first midterm I got about 10 points above the mean, and the second midterm I scored 2 points above the mean. So by finals time, I was guessing a B score in the class if I did decent on the final. HOW WRONG WAS I.
I did okay on the final, Im guessing I got around the mean score. When the grades came out I was suprised I got a C. The distirbution of the grades was
5 A
7 B
9 C'
12 D's and F's.
So more than a third of the class had to retake it. Im pretty sure he is setting his mean score as a C instead of a B like every other professor Ive had. Chances of retaking this class are pretty high so stay away.

haha...ok so seriously...this guy is hated by too many so i thought i'd say something....i didn't like this guy too much in the begginning...because let's face it, he's not a nice guy. He'll diss you, he doesn't care how you feel...and honestly, if you're dumb and ask stupid questions, he'll be pretty brutal. As teaching goes....he's not the best at explaining things, he seems to like definitions alot so it's a good idea to memorize them because he tends to put it on his midterms as true or false. Btw his midterm u can get negative points, so....stay away from the multiple choice unless you KNOW the answer, don't guess. I got an A in his class, but i worked really hard and my TA was more then helpful. Overall? He's honestly not that bad though, you just have to understand his style of teaching, then he becomes pretty chill. Take him he's not that bad, but make sure you have a good TA.

Prof Jung is a very good professor. He takes time to really explain the material and makes sure that he material is understood before moving on. He's entertaining because he's a bit of an anarchist or something. He does, however, not seem to care too much about helping students outside the class. He absolutely hates the Stewart text. For the midterms and finals, he gives a detailed review sheet. If you do the review completely and understand the homework (which is out of the text), then you can easily do well on the tests, which have no surprises. Maybe He has improved since his terrible reviews below, because I certainly learned and mastered the material without having to spend hours reading the book. Take this professor

Not as bad as most of the reviews say. Hard to access outside of the classroom (I went to his set office hours several times and he wasn't actually there). Easy to understand. He made sure that we understood as far as he could (many of the people in the class would not speak up and there were only 9 of us).
Likes T/F questions but they were all from the homeworks, as were many of the exam questions. He offered optional extra credit.

Professor Jung was extremely hard. I took him for 31b, and after the first midterm, which the class average was 30/100...I knew this class was going to be hard. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND TAKE A DIFFERENT PROFESSOR! However, for our final, he realized that our class was doing so poorly, that he used problems from the previous 2 midterms and examples he did in class. All you had to do was memorize them. I think the only reason why I got away with a C in this class was because I went to his office hours and talked to him.

even though i did not like him, i am not going to say anything bad about this guy. just one piece of advice: if you can take someone else take him/her instead. just get it over with and avoid going through a stressful quarter.

I consider myself pretty good at Calc, considering I got an A in 3a and an A- in 3c, but I got a C in 3b.
I'm not your typical bitter kid that writes low ratings because of bad grades. With that said, Kenley Jung is the worst professor I have taken in my two years here at UCLA. His lectures are completely useless, as he just reads theorums and such and copies them word for word from the book on the board. The tests are as hard as they can possibly be, with horrible grading schemes (such as the infamous true/false problems that mark you off if you get them wrong).
The material in the class was never very difficult, but the professor made it so. If theres any prof you avoid here, its Jung.

I had to retake math 3C because of his stupid true/false questions. Minus 2 if wrong, plus 2 if right and zero if not answered. I got a D+ in the class and when i retook the class, i got an A-. I took Prof Jung in Spring'05. He said it was his first time teaching this class. I bet by now he still doesn't know how to teach the class except for cussing every time he got the questions wrong. He's not a concerned professor at all. I went to see him and asked if i could see my final, he was like, "I'm busy' and slammed the door in my face. I told him I needed just five mins, he took his watch out and timed me. What type of professors is this? Do NOT take his class. Even if you study really hard, you're still gonna do bad because he doesn't know how to teach and his stupid grading policies.

There's a lot of bellyaching about Jung but I think the problem lies in the fact that most of these people actually WENT to leacture. I went to 4 lectures max all quarter and easily swooped an A (but I took calculus in highschool). I would say don't bother going to lectures, get a friend that's already taken the class or that is good at math to tutor you instead! Do the homework and go to discussions.
The highlights of lecture (the ones I DID go to) were him dropping the F-bomb, which happened pretty frequently.
I think Jung's overall fault is that he's a very new professor (his first quarter was W05, when I had him) and so he's very inconsistent and naive. As the quarters progress I'm sure he will make adjustments to his tests to help prevent negative scores, learn when to curve etc.
I say, if you want to take a class where you never show up for lecture but just spend some time every week teaching yourself the material, this class is fine. Plus you get to laugh about Jung talking about getting drunk off of 1 beer before the final review session--oh Kenley, you card!
