I really enjoyed this class and the professor. She was extremely accommodating, with online midterms and finals and she provided us with more than enough time to complete it. Her lectures were interesting and clear. I definitely recommend taking her class.

This class is manageable, to say the least. If you do not have prior knowledge of Chinese history the first couple of weeks are a bit slow. The grade breakdown is a discussion section (40%), one midterm (30%), and one final (30%). The discussion session is usually a review of the content from the lecture slides, but attendance is mandatory. The grade breakdown for discussions is attendance and participation (10%), in-class presentation (10%), and weekly postings (20%). I had TA Du and she is the only reason why I was able to understand anything in this course. She had 2 hour office hours and was super straightforward about what we did and did not need to focus on assignments. I ended up at 88% for the class and the exams are fair and they are not cumulative. I would definitely recommend taking this course with this specific professor. They love participation and make sure to give extra credit to those who often answer their questions in lectures.

Relatively easy GE class, especially if you have prior knowledge on Chinese history. Weekly 250-word assignments, 1 in-class presentation, 1 midterm and 1 final. Even though I gained much content through the lectures, they were dry and monotonous. Overall, a class I would highly recommend taking.

For some reason, the professor insisted that lecture attendance was mandatory. I genuinely have no idea why she kept insisting on this. I found it much more rewarding to watch the lectures online, as you often need to go back and rewatch certain points. I really don't see a reason to go to any of them in person.

During the midterm and on its study guide, a group of identification questions were something along the lines of, "identify the object or text, some things that may be useful to help you identify it are its name, date, dynasty, creator, and context." According to my TA, the professor mandated that TA's mark students off if they didn't have ALL of the mentioned information. It really rubs me the wrong way that the professor lied about the prompt to a group of questions and then marked students off for it.

Otherwise, the midterm was quite fair and I enjoyed the essay question at the end, same with the final.

Overall, the professor is a very good and engaging lecturer. I wish the assignments required more knowledge of the course material rather than just the readings but that's fine. By the way, the textbook is almost completely useless. I think you need it for like 1 or 2 discussion posts but you can get around that problem quite easily.

I am very glad I took this class, as it was informative and fun. I would recommend this class, although it is not very light on memorization.

Professor Wu was a good professor and the content of the class itself was manageable to understand. Although at times her accent made it a bit difficult to understand what she was lecturing, the content in the slides itself were helpful. The class had one midterm and one final. Both the midterm and the final are formatted the same, with multiple choice questions, small response questions describing 6 images/figures, and 2 short essay questions (online - 3 hours). I personally read the textbook from start to finish, but I belive that the slides were helpful enough. As for the discussion section, you have weekly discussion posts in regard to the reading or film of the week (there are 2 to 3 options and you only respond to 1 prompt). There is a group presentation that you have to do in discussion, which is relatively easy (max 10 min long) based on the weekly discussion reading/film.

The class overall is pretty easy. There is one midterm and a final. If you cover all the topics on the study guide, you should be fine for both exams. Remember to do the readings!

The course is super easy if you are Chinese. However, even though you have no background knowledge in Chinese culture, the course is still not so difficult. The workload is not heavy. You have no assignments except the weekly discussion post and one very easy presentation in your section. The midterm and the final are not difficult. You can find the answers from Professor Wu's lectures, and some open-ended questions are very thought-provoking and interesting. Professor Wu knows her stuff, and the lectures are overall well-structured. Some students may consider the lectures a bit dry, and that's true, but you can definitely handle that. My TA Xinong is very helpful and knowledgeable. Definitely recommend the course as a GE!
