An okay class. Lectures can be boring. However, Geddes is a great deal knowledgable. She is also helpful. Best best is to go to her office hours and avoid the TAs. Mine was useless.

Geddes makes you learn the material. No fluff in this class. Cut and dry. She can be a bit boring, and she admits to this. She one time laughed because she was putting the students in the front row asleep. Good professor. Really good class.

I love Professor Geddes! She is full of knowledge, and so are her TA's. I went into this class with minimal knowledge of South American politics, and I now feel as though I can hold an intelligent conversation regarding the economic and political instabilities of Argentina, Brazil and Chile. If you put in some effort to learn a lot, your grade will definitely reflect that. Bottom line: Take Geddes!

I took Professor Geddes for an upper division class on South American politics, and I really learned a lot. Her lectures are very thorough and the tests are fair. If you want a good lecturer with a very solid knowledge of Latin American politics, take Geddes.

Geddes is very knowledgable and I feel like I learned a ton about south armerican politics. She is very intelligent and a great teacher. That said, lectures were a bit dry--she just starts talking and you write as much down as possible while trying to pay attention for 75 minutes straight, and that's it, everytime. Also, the reader is a bit difficult at times, or unnecessary. But overall, great class.

This is a great class. It is fair and rewarding. You will learn a lot (if you do not put any effort into the class and readings, you will still learn but if you put decent effort in you will become very educated in the subject). There are a good amount of readings that can be daunting at times but they are rewarding and I enjoyed almost every single article (you will either have to read them all online or print them out). Even though she is quite bland in presentation, the content of the class is engaging enough to make you want to listen and learn. She is extremely knowledgable and it is great to be able to be a student of someone like that. She is well known in the United States as a Latin American scholar and the article we read of hers was very good.

Take the class!

Sometimes I had to leave early because her monotone voice made me want to pull my hair out. I read one of her books in a different class, which was insightful but like most academic writing, remarkably useless. Some of the things she said apart from lecture content made her seem arrogant, like a stereotypical "I hate teaching, let me publish" big university academic.I found her to be extremely boring, and also politically biased. But to her credit, she was able to admit that statist economic policies cause crisis and inflation. Her lectures are also very well organized and her style makes note-taking easy. The TA's are very helpful and probably belong at the podium.

Great lady and great professor. Super knowledgeable about the material, but very dry and boring as a lecturer. But it's still a great class and I would highly recommend her.

Professor Geddes is a very effective instructor. After taking this class, I have a very good understanding of the topic and it was really interesting too. It is very important to go to lecture and I thought the assigned readings were actully interesting, even though they could be a bit long.

I think Professor Geddes is amazing. Whoever says she's dry is either not mature enough to understand the material or too thick-headed to realize that she does indeed have a very comical sense of humor! Her lectures are impeccably organized, she summarizes her points, and she expresses a sincere concern for the welfare of her students -what more could you want??!! The readings are insane though, and it's my only complaint -but it comes with the territory nonetheless...

Anway, I highly recommend this remarkable woman -she is one of the most respected intellectuals within her field, and if you think that she's dry, you're obviously in the wrong major ;-)
