Great professor. I had him for abnormal psych, and I think he was harder than the other professors who teach abnormal (big research paper, all essay exams, etc.) but definately worth it! He is a great lecturer and covers the material with a vibrant enthusiasm not matched by many professors. He gives you a complete study guide for the exams, so no big suprises, but grades harder than most psych professors. Highly recommened!

While Dr. Baker is very knowledgeable about the material and a good lecturer (Psych 127), he does not seem to care about student learning. I found him very hard to get a hold of and it seems his high status has caused him to forget/not care about us undergrads.

He is very informative. Before the midterms, he gives out a study sheet so as long as you know the study sheet really well you will do fine. The final is not cumulative. He aso gave an optioanl term paper so people canget a chance to raise their grade my 5%. you can really learn a lot from this man.

You will NOT regret taking this class! Prof. Baker is very knowlegdeable and a good lecturer. Sure his classes are big and it can be hard to find personal attention. But then again, Prof. Baker does put in much effort to get the class to run smoothly and he succeeds. If you want to learn about Abnormal/clinical Psych, be very glad this guy is there to teach you about it, because you will learn!

PSYCH 127 Submitted March 14, 2003 Grade Received: N/A

Professor Baker is an amazing! If you go to lecture you will have all the information needed for the exams and guide you on what information you really need from the reading, which is the material he lectures on. He is extremely knowledgable on abnormal psychology and has lots of personal experience to offer. Classes are very organized and easy to follow. He organized a meeting for students to answer questions about graduate schools in psychology, and was very knowledgeable in that area too. The exams are very fair and he gives out the long essay questions before the exam and the short answer questions are usually based on the long essays he doesn't use for the midterm. I highly recommend him for abnormal psych.

Overall I felt that I learned a lot from this professor. His powerpoint presentation were very effective and they followed the textbook. He focuses on aspects in which he's an expert on (i.e. autism, mental retardation,ADHD)and does a good job in explaining them. He lets you know what the exam questions are in advance so you will be better prepared. There are two midterms and two paper one being optional. The second paper is encouraged if you want to improve your grade after the first exam. He has office hours but being involved in the community he sometimes is not available. Again I would recommend this professor as long as you read the book for the material for the exam.

Have you guys seen a Beautiful Mind? Well Baker is kind of like Nash, it doesn't really seem like he cares about any of the students. Seemed to me, that just like the character in the movie, the professor only teaches to use the facility. Other than that, he's alright.

Prof. Baker is seriously amazing! His tests are very, very fair. He says from the first day that he wants to teach overall and not focus on minute details asked in multiple choice questions. In this class you learn the material and not only how to take a test, something missing from psych classes. Best thing I ever did was take this class. Only psych class that i actually learned and excelled at the same time. Higly recommended!

PSYCH 127 Submitted March 12, 2002 Grade Received: N/A

Lectures: good, very explanatory, necessary for exams. A lot of examples that are explained in the text but shown visually in class. gives a good grasp of what you're actually studying.
Tests: very broad, so be ready for anything that could be included. you could find yourself studying for something that was discussed in class but will never be asked in the exams.
Professor: He's not bad, I don't understand why everyone says he's a bad person. I guess those who did write about him in that way were those snotty students who are always bugging him at all times just to get a good elbow rub for the final grade. Just stick to your business. any questions? email or office hours. but just don't ask before class, he's very into getting organized so he can just start fast when everyone gets to class.

Grading: Fair, just study a lot.
