He's the shiznit. His lectures are engaging. I NEVER fell asleep during his lectures (trust me, that says a lot).

This class is probably the most useful class in the world. You learn about a bunch of stuff about college life, how to get involved on campus, how to study like a high achiever, etc. All the lectures are interesting and the TA's are super nice. I had Anthony Bediones as my TA (whatsup anthony!) and he was super awesome and made discussions pretty interesting. There are weekly journals and a final paper that's like 8 pages long, but they're super easy and if you put in any kind of effort, you'll get an A. Even though most people take this class as a whatever A, it's actually really helpful to understand and participate.

Only thing I wouldn't like about this class was that I had to wake up super early. Nearing midterms and finals, I hated going to this class.

I took him as a 1st year in Edu. 197 J, Undergraduate Academic Success. I wasn't going to take this class originally, but it was recommended for the PAN (Peer Advising Network-for undeclared 1st years) students to take it, and it worked with my schedule. I was afraid it would be something lame like "study skills for dummies," and I didn't feel I needed that. I really loved it though. It was more of a self discovery type class...and I love that stuff. The work load was nothing--weekly 2 page journal response to lecture and then a 6-8 page paper for the final. Discussion sections were great because we got to just talk about stuff, our lives, school, and its relation to the course material. It was very informal. I learned a lot of great things about motivation, why people drop out of college, and what I can do to help me succeed. It's not a class for stupid people at all. Bruce is a great lecturer too...never boring.

He's a really nice guy, ED 180 was a great class. You know those classes where you ask yourself, "when am I ever gonna need to know this?" Well, everything in his class is applicable to college, the education system, and life in general.

Bruce is an awesome lecturer who knows his stuff and is eager to pass it on. He finds guest lecturers to enhance curriculum, and has fun and informative extracurricular activities. Overall, just a really easy to approach and very generous professor.

So caring. He does everything in his power to help you succeed, and is also a great lecturer. The material is easy (and forgettable) but he is truly worth knowing.

Great professor! Since I heard him speak in orientation, I just knew he would be impeccable. You will learn so much from him in his classes and he is very approachable. I defintely recommend him!

this class was fun. I took it as a freshman and everyone in the class were upper classman's but they told me that if they found out about it their freshman year they would have taken it. It's useful, and Barbee is wonderful. He's very nice and kind and approachable. The class is easy going.

Bruce is one of the kindest professors that I have had at UCLA. I have also had the opportunity to work with him on different levels, and have continued to find him the be the most understanding person as well. If you want to take a class, a fairly easy class, and truly have an interest in this subject matter I would highly recommend it!

Professor Barbee is a wonderful teacher. His lectures are interesting and you can tell he enjoys what he does. He is always there for the students. His passion and enthusiasm inspires others. He's a big reason why I am in the education minor. UCLA would be a happier place if there were more educators like him around.
