She's very fair in grading, workload, etc. She seems to have struck the right balance between being too tough or too easy. Office hour visits are a delight--she couldn't be more helpful and really makes you feel welcome.

I think you'll like the way she handles class discussion. The Socratic method gets great praise from students and teachers but it's hard to see why. 'Socratic' too often means the instructor will put forth a question meant to lead the student to a point of view. As the students struggle to get to the 'right' answer, other ideas get presented but the Socratic teacher loses sight of that because he/she already knows where he/she wants to lead the student. In my opinion, that's a waste of time--we're better off just being told what to do.

Professor Streeter is not afraid to deviate entirely from the direction she prepares for which can be very refreshing.

I feel Prof. Streeter is an excellent teacher who expects a lot from her students. Do not go to class unprepared. There is a lot of class discussion that is very indepth. Grading is fair, the professor lets you know exactly what she expects, no surprises. She is friendly and easy to approach with questions. Very entertaining lectures.

Professor Streeter is a very smart woman, kind, very considerate, and open to a students concerns. She will work with you, even allow for a creative project if your so inclined. I did not find her to be at all arrogant as others have said, quite the opposite in fact. On occasion she is scattered, but brilliant non the less!
I loved her seminar and can recommend her to others!

ENGL M104A Submitted Nov. 27, 2009 Grade Received: N/A

Professor Streeter in my opinion is a mediocre lecturer...sometimes they would be engaging lectures and other times, more often than not, they would be completely off topic and hard to follow. She has a tendency to be all over the place and is quite unorganized. In addition, she has been late to every single class this fall '09 quarter since the first day of school. It used to be about 20 minutes late, one time 40 minutes late, and now it has come down to about 7-10 minutes. As students, we are expected to come on time as well as turn in our assignments on time and you'd think a professional would be able to meet those standards as well. She is a nice person but I feel that she is not one of the best professors on campus. She tends to call on those students she knows. I have never taken a class taught by her before and it took me a good 10 minutes to get noticed and called on even though I sit in the 2nd row from the front. The actual class is interesting and I enjoyed the reading but taking her is under your own discretion!

ENGL M104A Submitted Jan. 9, 2010 Grade Received: N/A

Professor Streeter is a nice person and the text we read were great, but she has taken forever to post final grades for the class I had with her last quarter! I am going into the second we of Winter quarter without my grade from her class in the Fall...WHAT THE HECK!!!! That is unprofessional and unfair to students. So if you're looking for a "nice" professor she is cool, but if you want your grade on time....you might want to pick another teacher.

Class: Literature of the Harlem Renaissance in the Twentieth Century to 1960. Overall, easy, easy class. Easy essay essay assignments, easy take home mid-term, easy final. I found a few of the books enjoyable and some were more boring than KCRW's, "Bookworm." The one thing I got really tired of with some of the book selections was that almost all had female protagonists. Not to sound like a misogynist, but there's movies for guys and their are "chick-flicks." A lot of these books are aimed towards a female audience and seem like they would make for an excellent Lifetime original movie. Aside from that, the class was very enjoyable, Streeter knows this subject inside and out. Yes, her lectures are a bit chaotic at times, but if you pay attention you can follow along with ease. Her chaotic method may also be due in part to the subject matter being related to sociology, history, economics, music, and art, just to name a few. But like I said, it's an easy course, with an entertaining, easy, knowledgeable teacher.

She was fine throughout the quarter. The trouble came with her "grading" our short papers. She would give V, V(+) and V+. Many people stayed in the V range for their papers (we wrote a 2 page paper per week) and then at the end she announced that the ranges represent A, B and C although throughout the quarter she kept saying the opposite (that they don't stand for a letter grade) and that she would grade us based on improvement, etc. She got sick the last week of class. She gave us the chance to rewrite one of the papers and then when sher rescheduled the class for Friday (not a normal time so people went out of their way to show up) she emailed us 2 hours before to say she's won't show. She then wouldn't accept revised papers via email and said we would not get the same grade if we turned them in late.... YEA! There is no midterm or final. The final is a 8-10 page paper.
She's NICE. REALLY NICE. She spent a long time with me in office hours. But when it comes to grading, I feel like 5 people will get As and the rest of us will hover around the B/C range.
OVERALL: take her but be cautious about your grade regardless of what she tells you. She grades really hard. We were relieved there is no midterm but those 5 - 2 page papers took our lives as she was harsh and expected miracles from two, double spaced pages!

Streeter is an excellent Professor. She is very interesting and makes lectures fun. She uses outside mediums such as movies and music and magazines. She is very up to date with her information. Her exams and essays are fairly graded. the essays arent very long either. Her final is atake home final which always a plus. She is very funny and the lectures are very organized. However jsut becuase she is fun, doesnt mean she is joking around. Make sure you have the readings done because she may just call your name if no one is repsonding to her questions. Also, her questions seem very confusing sometimes because she looks for a specific answer and when students dont give her what she's looking for she just keeps on lookingfor it. So that kinda scares students into not discussing because she makes you feel like you never will be right.
However other than the fear of discussion, she is a great woman who is verymuch a part of the subject she teaches. She also has a lot of personal feelings attached with some of the topic and characters.

Professor Streeter is intelligent and has a very esteemed poise, but too bad she already knows this because most of the time, she ends up talking about herself. Her Film as Literature course was very interesting and very fun; however, her grading process is a mess, to put it lightly. She leaves students to decide their own paper topics, which then end up either too general or too specific. The questions for her take-home final were unneccessarily long winded, which I think she did purposely because she loves to sound intelligent by using long SAT-esque words, which only work to confuse students. She always thinks she is right and is not very open to the opinions of others. Maybe she is different in seminars, but in the lecture that I took, I found her arrogant, self-absorbed, and extremely full of herself.

It's amazing to me that whenever students review a woman of color as an instructor, TA, or professor and she is confident the reviewer ALWAYS deem the female professor as arrogant. I've met many arrogant professors and most of them are not women of color. I have also taken a course with Prof. Streeter and she was engaging, informative, and expected that students attending a public Ivy would give above average work and make quality comments in class. Her grading was on par with other professors as well.
