All Ratings and Reviews for Christopher A Waterman
loves to hear himself talk...while his experiences in life and academia are valuable and offer anecdotal evidence, he has a tendency to bring up pivotal topics for discussion and not let anyone present ideas that differ from his own. Anthropologist and musician, which is appreciated, classes tend to drag on and he does not like to be questioned.
Although Professor Waterman's lectures can be monotonous and "boring," the subject material is usually very interesting and is just presented in an unmotivating manner. He is an easy grader (as long as he sees that you put some time and effort into your essay)and the projects assigned in WAC1 are probably some of the best at ucla. He is very personable, and is a very nice man. I HIGHLY recomend taking WAC 1 simply for the projects that you get to do. (photo essays, movies, art exhibit essays, and biographical essays)
he's extremely boring, so prepare to sleep during his class. it never made sense to me why an anthropologist leads the wac department anyway...
I disagree with the notion that Chris is "extremely boring." He is actually one of the better lecturing professors at UCLA. I think that he is engaging and an excellent storyteller. He always brings up interesting and pertinent topics for class discussions. It is evident through his humble manner that he is not out to represent the whole of any given culture when he shares his anthropological experiences. I am glad he's the WAC chair!
