Quarter: Fall 2019
Grade: A
Jan. 4, 2020

I had a lot of mixed feelings about this class but as it came to a close, I grew to really appreciate everything I learned. However, although this class is not a writing 2 fulfillment, it required more writing than a writing 2 English class I took the same quarter. Throughout the quarter, this class was the one I was most anxious about. If you're thinking of taking this class, know you will have to work really hard to get an A or an A-. My essay grades improved a lot over each paper but your grade depends on each one so be careful and don't slack off. You definitely shouldn't take this class if you're looking for an easy A or if you're not interested in philosophy at all.

Quarter: Winter 2019
Grade: A

I loved this class! Professor Greenberg is extremely clear in what he want and what he's looking for. There are 4 papers. The first one is 1 page, the second one is 2 pages, and the last two are 3-4 pages. He is really strict on how he wants them written, he doesn't want any fluff and he puts word limits on sentences. This is tedious at first, but it's actually really nice to learn how to convey your thoughts so precisely. He gives really engaging lectures and I just took side notes on the paper pamphlets he gave out for each class. I would write down exact phrasing he would say to help me write the essays later, and I got good grades on all of the papers (89 was my lowest one, the others I got at least a 94). I never took philosophy before this and didn't know what to expect but I really loved it and thought he did a really nice job connecting philosophical ideas to modern examples. Also, you don't need to buy a textbook and he provides the readings online and there are 2 question quizzes for each class, and they were easy points I think I got 100% on every quiz. I think it's very doable to get an A- in this class, and you just have to really care and put in effort to get an A, but would def recommend this for a GE!

This was a really interesting and insightful class. The class was structured very well, organized extremely clearly, and the professor is very straightforward and clear when he teaches. He gives good, useful handouts which you'll need for your papers and quizzes. He is also really friendly and willing to help so definitely go to office hours if you're struggling to understand a concept or just want to talk more/delve deeper into the material! If you go to lecture and do your readings, this class should be pretty easy. The formatting of the papers is stated clearly in the rubrics, so follow that. The grading of the papers depend on the TAs so if you don't understand why you got points taken off, talk to your TA to see what you should've done and avoid those mistakes next time!

Overall 11/10 would recommend this class. Probably one of the best class I've taken at UCLA so far!

The topic is extremely interesting and the professor does not disappoint. His lectures and slides were very clear and he always made efforts to answer any questions. Although some reading were more difficult than others, they were all relevant to the course. The two question quizzes were also fairly easy. He provided handouts for every lecture which I really appreciate when writing the papers. The grading is somewhat tough but that can only be said about my TA. I recommend this class and professor.

This was an extremely great class to take, though lecutres sometimes got a little boring and in-class discussion got off-topic. Topics can be confusing but that may be becuase I didn't attend lecture that often. TA sections and handouts provided were extremely helpful and got me through the course easily

Let me start off by saying I am by no means a philosophy person and was dreading this class. I actually enjoyed the contents and loved my discussion. He gives handouts in class that helps with the 2x per week quizzes but they aren't worth much and they mainly test that you did the reading (only two questions). This class isn't an easy A but it is definitely a doable A. It is way more interesting than other philosophy classes and is a cool way of seeing the world from a different perspective.

This was a very interesting class and the readings, although they were sometimes lengthy or difficult to grasp at first, were relevant to each lecture. This made going to lecture worth the time because Prof. Greenberg made reference to the reading and explained it in greater detail. That said, there are no midterms or in-class finals for this class, which means your grade mostly depends on 4 papers. One short one (5%), a 1.5 page one (15%), and two 3-4 papers (30% each). I'd say the papers were toughly graded, but I can only speak about my TA. So though the class is chill as others have said, if you aren't a very great writer or aren't fond of philosophy in general, don't take this class (or take it as P/NP).

This class was dope! Professor Greenberg is awesome and chill. I really enjoyed his class. The reading is kind of heavy, but it's interesting material for sure. If you take this class, make sure you attend lectures. There is a quiz due before every lecture that consists of two questions: one from previous lecture, and one from the reading. Also, he puts time into his handouts for every lecture, which is awesome because they come through when you're writing your papers.

Overall, this was a great class, and I would definitely take Greenberg again.

First and foremost, Greenberg is GORGEOUS! He distracted me 100% of the time. Regardless, his classes are fun. The subject is hard to.understand, and some reading are difficult. The essays he assigns are toughly graded. That being said, his lecture are entertaining, his handouts are useful and his office hours help drastically. I would take this instructor time and time again. It's not an easy A but his good looks and awesome lectures are worth the ride! Buckle up, people!

It's definitely one of BEST classes I've came across even if I only got A-. Materials covered were really interesting and the professor did a great job explaining them. My TA was Esther who is helpful and cool too.
It's not an easy GE though and I worked my ass off to get a decent score on my essays. But I never regret taking this class. Love it!
