As you can see from these reviews, Gary Gardner is a very popular professor \361 he\355s hilarious! Don\355t let his age fool you; he knows all about current pop culture. Not only that, yes, he probably knows everything there is to know about musical theatre (he has lived and breathed it ever since he could walk!). Even in a class of nearly 200, he knew many of the students\355 names. He\355s just such a sweet and amazing man. However, I would not say that his class, particularly on musical history, is easy (unless, of course, you are a theatre major and already know all about this stuff). There are a plethora of names, dates, directors, choreographers, composers, writers, ad infinitum that you must memorize and know like the back of your hand. If you don\355t know all of that (and I do mean ALL of that), you will be screwed on the final exam. Obscure song titles will show up (which he only mentioned once in passing, so make sure to write everything down), names he mentioned only once or twice, you name it \361 everything is fair game. So it is recommended that you take extremely good and meticulous notes and memorize everything for the final. Although the lectures themselves were fun to attend (Gary will have you in stitches for 90% of the lecture time!), do not take this class for an easy \354A.\356 If you\355re feeling particularly diligent one quarter AND you want to be highly entertained by a man who dances around the room and sings, take him. But take great notes and study hard for the final.

Fun class, Theater majors cheat in the back. Other than that, its an easy GE. The final is tough.

THEATER 10 Submitted Feb. 23, 2009 Grade Received: N/A

he is an awesome professor. you just have to get used to his wacky sense of humor, but even that becomes one of his charms! His class was the one i always looked forward to. His enthusiasm about theater trully interests you and make you want to learn more!

Gary knows everything about every musical ever written. The class is relaxed and a lot of fun and Gary is a great professor! I would recommend this class to anybody who needs a good GE. My only complaint is that he covers a lot of information very quickly and it is sometimes hard to keep up and know what he is looking for. Take this class! (104C)

Dr. Gardner's class is fun and relaxing. He's quite a character. Just sit back and watch him sing and entertain you! Lots of film clips, listening to music...Very enjoyable class if you're interested in Broadway musicals. You learn a lot.

I love this guy. So much! He's the most entertaining thing ever. I would say study lots for the final though...memorizing all those shows and names ain't easy, but it can be done if you put enough effort into it.

Love him, love him, love him. People are complaining because they underestemated the class and didn't study enough for the final. Don't study enough=worse grade than you want. Take this class if you want to be filled with joy for four hours a week, but it still is a real class--you have to study for the final.

THEATER 104C Submitted May 2, 2002 Grade Received: N/A

Gary is a very entertaining lecturer and his an overall nice man. HOWEVER, his class is not all that easy - there are lots of dates (mainly just years), plays, actors, directors and plots to understand and memeorize. Although I enjoyed his class, I feel it is mainly geared towards Theater majors, or at least those who are VERY familiar with theater. If you are niether one of these, don't expect to get an A in this class unless you plan to put some effort into it - and take REALLY good notes... this is key!

not as easy as people say. Lots of pop quizes and tough final. but enjoyable

He's absolutely hilarious even for a completely boring subject matter.

His grading system, though, is very arbitrary. Some students were excused from the final and got A's because of their pop quiz scores being maybe 1/2 point higher than the people who got stuck taking the final... and even without the final these people got higher grades.

Definitely has his groupies and his favorites. The subject matter was absolutely wretched to sit through two hours of, but Gardner makes it fun.
