HIST 97D, taken Fall 2017 Submitted March 23, 2017 Grade Received: B

To be frank, if you need to take a 97 seminar, I would suggest picking a different professor. Waugh assigns one page single spaced papers, which is essentially three to four pages double spaced, every single week. You have to read hundreds of pages for these one page papers every week, and it gets exhausting. When she grades these papers she is very nit-picky and grades very hard on them. Even if you hit all the points and understand the themes of the reading, and give a good analysis she will find something to dock points off your essay, such as word choice or very minor grammatical issues. I've never gotten an A or A- on any of the papers and she never gives you clear guidelines on the grading criteria. If you want to go to graduate school or law school, and need to keep a high GPA, I would suggest another professor.

I found professor waugh very passionate about her teaching. she combines music, graphics, movies, and an outline in most of her lectures. it keeps students more attentive than just a lecture. Is she difficult? I dont think she is. Her T.As do a lot of your grading. I liked the class and the professor.

You will learn a lot in Waugh's classes and she is a fair grader. You don't have to do the reading if you go to lecture and the midterm and final are pretty much straight off the study guide. She cares a lot about the subjects she teaches, but sometimes the material gets dry.

Dr. Waugh is a great lecturer. She took a miserably boring time period and made it approachable. Her class is easy, and worth taking.

Prof. Waugh is a true educator--she works hard to keep her lectures engaging. Her tests are more than fair, and the film paper was graded easily. I would definitely recommend her to anyone, history major or otherwise.

Professor is awesome! She is very excited and dedicated. She utilizes "abstract" learning tools like music and guests. The only thing is, work hard on your papers, you can definetally get an "A", but just know that she is kind of a tough grader for how nice she is, so be prepared. But I'd definetally take her again :-)

Her passion for the History of the Civil War and Reconstruction maker her an amazing professor. She comes to class over-zealous, enthusiastic, and extremely well-prepared; thus making it 100% easier and better for the student to keep focus on her lecture. Her use of technology as one aspect of her lecture only enables the students to better understand the material and enjoy her class even more. She is one of UCLA's best!!!!

Her Civil War class was the best class I have ever taken at UCLA. I am going on her summer Session class and can't wait. She is so passionate about the subject and she integrates multimedia into her lectures perfectly. Take a class from Joan Waugh!!
