A working professional in his field, a great storyteller, and a charming man.
"you know"< if you have taken him you know what i mean :)
GREAT PROFESSOR!!! all you have to do to get an A is attend all the lectures, turn everything on time and take the midterm/do the final performance...HE IS WONDERFUL... even if you do really bad on the midterm, but have been there all the time and have turned everything in youre GUARANTEED yes i said it GUARANTEED an A!!! i got an A, and unless you slacked off and didnt turn in a paper/attend lecture then youll get something less. Even though the class was 3 hours long, i loved every minute of it... he makes lecture interesting and fun... highly recommended... he is a great person to talk to
The TAs this quarter are horrible. They grade everything and are very biased. When you ask for help they don't give much help and they did not set out a rubric for the weekly papers. Every week you have a paper due and they grade unfairly (worth 10 points). ATTEND CLASS, it counts towards your grade. THREE EXTRA CREDIT opportunities, take them because you never know what you're going to get on the midterm or the paper due at the end of class which counts towards your final. Memorize a few lines and do a performance too, that counts as your final. Just go to class and be really nice to the professor (he's amazingly cool and sincere and deserves respect). Talented guy, that's for sure. Not so much the TAs he has.
He is an amazing prof and person. He will constantly make you laugh and the subject manner is alright. His TA's were not enjoyable. Made the class tedious with weekly papers and inconsistent grading methods. Take the class because he is Chicano Theatre
Amazing Professor, a rare type of person in general because he is about change and responsibility, rather than money and comfort. He could easily be famous and rich but he doesn't value those things, he believes in his students as much as he believes in his role on earth. He is powerful. He passes on to his students the type of self-worth that cannot be found in a book, it must be experienced.
The best professor at UCLA. You cannot graduate without taking him. He is truly amazing.
This man loves life and it shows in his work and teaching. He is: brilliant and engaging; entertaining and passionate; active and participatory; highly critical and honest. He is a demanding teacher who respects your work and process. He's a rarity at UCLA. His instruction made me better at my art; his lessons made me think about where and how we live; his work inspires me to make more art.
I had a great time with him in class. He's awesome at leading discussions and really helps the student work through the material.
Wonderful prof. One of the best people in this department. He cares about the students and he loves to hear them out. I enjoyed his class and i recommend him to anyone looking to have a good classroom experience.
The only discouraging part of this course are the horrid TAs, Iris Lucero and Kimberly Welch. My assigned TA was Iris Lucero. This TA was not at all welcoming or helpful. Her grading methods were extremely inconsistent on the weekly responses due to her poor understanding of proper citation formatting as well as the course material. Any time she was presented with a question her only answer was to see her during office hours where she was not prepared to answer questions and did not provide much help. Upon being confronted when I found a grading error on my midterm exam, she refused to restore my points even when I provided her with evidence to support my claims. She clearly needs to work on not letting her pride interfere and influence her judgement in order to be a fair grader. I found her to have hardly any strengths in understanding the course, much less attempting to teach it. Again, she clearly has to work on her social and communication skills, as well as not letting her emotions interfere with her grading.
