I personally think that professor ono's teaching style is not one to merit going to class. Although sometimes there can be some informative parts to his lectures, most of the time he loses the class' s attention. Although his tests were pretty straightforward, he was very picky about answers and wasn't big on partial credit. The difficulty of the class isn't that high, as long as you keep up with the reading.

worst professor in UCLA. impossible lectures to stay awake, he needs to stay in his lab and just do research. leave the teaching to others. never ever take a class from him.

You'll learn a lot from this class because you basically teach yourself from readings and doing 3 <yeah 3> term papers that are ten pages SINGLE SPACED. And you also have a bunch of quizzes that everyone fails and a pretty easy final. But a decent class overall.

He actually isn't that bad of a professor to take. His class is a gpa booster. His practice exams and homeworks are EXACTLY like the actual tests, so if you do them you will get an A. His class is more of a memorization class than actual application. I would recommend him.

This class was really interesting, if you know how to make the most of your opportunities. I found Prof. Ono to be very knowledgeable, especially outside of office hours. I learned a lot about novel metals such as NiTi.

The class itself is not as difficult as the other classes, but I don't know if it's him, but there are a lot of readings involved, and it's almost impossible to keep up with the reading. I didn't like his lectures. His lectures are mostly slides of pictures of how the book material is applied in real life, and it's just not what he is going to test us on midterms. His lectures are not very helpful, and most of the students either do homework in class or just sleep. Other than that, his test are not too hard.

Great, unique professor. As long as you read the book and look over his lecture notes, you should do fine. He doesnt try to trick you. Straight to the point. Covers important topics. His notes are clear and precise. Exams are staight forward. Basically, fill in the blank, short essay questions and calculations. Take the professor if you want to learn the stuff and get a good grade in the class. I highly recommend him.

Wow, this guy can be ridiculous at times. I pulled off an A in this class, no thanks to any help by the TAs or Ono. The entire quarter he or the TA's did not do one example problem. NOT ONE! So you must teach it all to yourself. . . all 700 pages of it. If you can bear reading and understanding 700 pages of engineering materials jargon, and can retain a lot of what you read, you will do well. If your memory isn't too good, watch out, and invest in one of those matrix style data plugins for your brain. Go to class tho, because he has quizzes like every class.

Professor Ono is a wonderful teacher. The interactive classes, his shared experiences and the student presentations really make the class interesting. Plus, his lectures and powerpoint presentations are clear and orgainized which is very helpful when learning the material. I would definitely recommend taking any class with him. He is extremely knowledgeable and very approachable. He is one of the nicest professors I have had!
