professor mcclure definitely is very knowledgable, but her lectures seem to stray a lot from the actual material. i really liked having our grades based on three papers, although the prompts are rather vague, so make sure you speak to your TA about specifics to include beforehand. in my case, i spoke to my TA about a grade on my paper and one of the reasons he said he marked me down was because i didn't discuss 'individualism,' although it was nowhere mentioned in the prompt. professor mcclure, however, is very approachable and helpful outside of class. the reading is very challenging and time consuming, so only take this class if you are willing to work for even a B.

Knows the material she is teaching very well, but is not a very easy professor.

If you take McClure with a grain of salt, her smug lectures can kind of be entertaining. You probably won't get a whole lot from her lectures anyhow (I didn't), but at least I could laugh at it a bit when I quit taking her as seriously as she takes herself.

Great professor. Very good lecturer, very insightful, and quite friendly.

Wow this was the most boring class I have ever taken. I think I left or slep through ever lecture. The TA's are cool, mine was Kaswan, but the lecture section was horrible. She explains everything, but its in such an un-engaging way that you cant help it to space out or just sleep. If you can handle boring lectures than this is a good class to take, but if you cant then stay away.

Professor McClure is very approachable. Her lectures are very interesting and thought-provoking. Definitely one of my favorite Professors at UCLA.

An Awful, awful class! Please do yourself a favor and avoid taking her class at all costs. The class is not only uselessly difficult but also boring. The T.As are extremely hard on grading the papers. Your grade is the result of 3 incredibly difficult graded papers. I have absolutely learned nothing in her class and received a C- indeed (during my time at UCLA, I have never received a grade less than B+) So please do yourself a favor and avoid this class. I cannot stress enough

at first i hated this class...philosophy isnt my thing but i learned to love it...i think McClure has a bad rap...the material tended to be boring but she tried to make it interesting/ funny (i only went to like 4 lectures) i got an A ta was kinda weird, but cool none the less...its not as difficult as it seems...but u do have to read a lot and work hard

McClure is far and away the worst professor I have *ever* had at UCLA. She couldn't engage a classroom is she got down on one knee with a diamond ring. BORING, DULL, UNBEARABLE...On more than one occasion I attended her class, on time, only to leave fifteen minutes later because I was getting NOTHING from her dry, uninteresting lecture. Her TA's grade extremely harshly--I was actually shocked at some of the grades I a UCLA 3rd year I've never been reamed so badly in my life. DO NOT TAKE PS10 WITH HER! I was expecting an important learning experience and what I got was nothing more than pain and suffering.

omg that class was hella whack yes HELLA WHACK!!

after going to class on a regular basis for most of the quarter i realized at around week 7 that it didnt even matter if i went to class or not. The TA's are horrible, their style of grading makes in impossible to get A's on paper. True the three essay format is nice, but its almost an impossibility to get an A on any of the essays. Out of a class of 180 only 1 person got an A on the first paper, and even then the person turned it in 2 days late and ended up with a C like the rest of the class. Professor McClure is friendly but she lacks that ability to give an engaging lecture.
