PSYCH 115 Submitted Aug. 7, 2009 Grade Received: N/A

This guy is a good teacher. I want to give out my scores because I hate how other people don't tell u what you need to get an A. The average on the midterm which is out of 60 points was a 45/60. I personally got a 49. Butcher said between 50-60 was an A. On the quizes which are 50 points they are extremely easy and I got a 49/50. The final has about 10 detailed questions that unless u know the book by heart you will not get. It is out of 90 points, however Butcher gives an extremely generous curve. I got a 74 out of 90 on his final and got a solid A in the class. He even was nice enough to tell me I got the seventh highest grade in the final out of the class of 94 students. Therefore, if u want to do well in Butchers class, you have to do the reading and go to lecture but especially do the reading. He's a easy teacher if you read but don't except him to be the type of person who will change your grade if you don't do well. He's not like that.

Butcher is a very kind and smart person but not the most captivating lecturer. The videos and materials are repeated in other Gerontology classes. I didn't like that he always bailed before the videos ended. The tests were difficult but most people did well. While class was boring most of the time, debating current elder topics after the midterm was fun. I'm not sure if I recommend this class but Gerontology minors have to take it with him anyway...sorry! On the plus side this class is only once a week...

I don't know why this guy is still teaching at UCLA. He's the worst professor. Out of 100 people in the class, only 20 students show up. Lectures are extremely boring. He tests you on the most trivial things!

Butcher is a nice guy but this class was really terrible. He lectured straight off of the book and it was all statistics and random facts. The entire class could have been summarized in one lecture. The class was pretty easy but not a good use of time.

I took his Gerontology class. He was very nice to students. When I visit his office hour, he was very nice and answered all of my questions sincerely. He also welcomed students who come visit him to talk to him. Even out of office hour, he helped students.

He enjoyed teaching this class a lot. He is a very cute and nice professor.

I took psych 115 in the summer session A with Dr. Butcher. I think that I really learned a lot in his class although sometimes the lecture could be a little bit confusing. Reading ahead and attending the discussion sessions are essential to do well in this class. The exams were not very difficult but sometimes the questions could get very specific which probably were used to test our whether we read the text carefully and thoroughly enough.

omigosh...i cannot believe someone said he's the best prof at ucla. butcher is terrible. he may be a nice man or have some sense of humor, but the lectures were a waste of my time! so disorganized and the tests are horrible. as if psych 115 wasn't bad enough to begin with, he does not help any. only good thing... interesting videos practically every class (even though maybe he should be using that time to teach something useful)

This professor shows absolutely no regard for students' learning. When you ask him a question during office hours, he will sometimes become extremely rude and will look at you as if you should never ask such "simple " question.
His lectures are boring and lack enthusiasm.
Tests are easy, if you study the book carefully, including the boxes. I heard many people complain that some students in the class always have his tests because his tests don't change much and I guess people somehow steal them or cheat.

Excellent professor! I learned a LOT from his Psych 115 class. His lectures are great - they are very engaging and he has a wonderful sense of humor. If you've taken life sciences and psych 85 (cog sci), you'll be especially well prepped for this class. The tests are pretty hard, but it's not a big deal because he applies a very generous curve.

This guy is pretty easy, if you like pure multiple choice tests. He recycles questions too so if you have the old tests from previous quarters it can be really helpful. If you want to do well you have to do the reading in the book and go to lecture or buy the lecture notes.
