Prof Ohanian is the most accessible econ professor I have had at UCLA (You can see him at the gym all the time riding the bike). I failed the midterm and got a B in the class, although I'm sure that with better studying I could have gotten an A. His tests are straightforward and his lectures follow the book, but are relatively entertaining for an econ class. I managed to stay awake for 8 a.m. classes! I would highly recommend him, but more importantly, shop around for a good TA because it makes all the difference.

This was by far one of the best Economics experiences I have had at UCLA; Professor Ohanian adds energy to all his lectures - with jokes and presentations of his lessons that are simple to follow; if you scan a chapter and then come to class, you will totally understand generally what is going on. His lectures draw ideas from the reading, however he has his own spin on lessons - such as adding derivations - which make the material more realistic and interesting. He constantly announces opportunities to come and ask him questions, and best of all he makes his midterm OPTIONAL! He understands that things happen, and thus he allows your final to count for your full grade; this is fair, because you will get an A on the final if you put time into studying efficiently. Professor Ohanian is one of the best, and has a very very good teaching style; TRUST ME, TAKE HIS CLASS! I don't understand why anyone who is an average econ student like me would not!

I thought Ohanian was a mediocre Professor. His method of grading really has potential to mess up your grade or really help you do well...which means that your grade is practically based on your final, which is somewhat unfair. Also, there is no homework in this class which really puts pressure on you to do well when it's finals time.

He also goes over SO many derivations and calculations in class which he says that we won't have to know for the exams, but we DO have to know them because we are asked to show our derivations on exams. That was dumb. But, I think if you look at previous years' exams, you would have a good idea of what the upcoming midterm or final will be like.

Overall, he's a nice guy, but not a very effective Professor. The class is a fast-paced session filled with derivations that are sometimes confusing to make sense out of. If you can take someone better, you should. But if you can't...I think you'll be ok if you pretty much memorize the calculations on previous exams and make sure you know how to derive pretty much all the functions he talks about during lecture.

This class was fairly easy...one of the easier economics classes I've taken at UCLA, he is a nice professor and his midterm and final are not too bad. There is no need to read the book or do the homework just go to lecture and listen up. I recommend taking this class...it's not bad

Ohanian is one of the best professors that I have taken so far. He is a very good lecturer and is very easy to understand. I found his tests to be very fair. The midterm is definitely harder than the final. However, if you do better on the final than the midterm than the final counts for your entire grade. A lot of students ended up with As and Bs in the class because the average on the final was pretty high. I thought that the book was helpful because it helped to reinforce the lecture.

It's very, very hard to find a good econ professor at UCLA, but Professor Ohanaian is definitely one! His lectures are very effective, and he does his best to keep a very boring subject interesting. The course material isn't easy, but Professor Ohanian has a great way of simplifying and explaining things. He also posts great course notes on the webpage that prove to be very, very helpful when preparing for the exams. He really is the best econ professor I've had at UCLA. Take him if you can!!

Professor Ohanian is a well rounded professor who in my opinion cares about the well being of his students, which is rare these days. He came through for me twice when I was in a tough situation. His lectures follow the book and if you attend class regularly and take notes, you'll be fine. His lectures are very informative not dull at all. His TA's are a diffrent story though. If you have a chance to take him, do so.

Professor Ohanian's Econ 102 class has got to be one of the easiest upper division econ classes at UCLA. As long as you do the sample probs, you will do VERY WELL. He spends the whole quarter talking about the Solow Growth model, and the calculations on the exam are almost identical to the handouts. Just memorize the answers!!
He doesn't cover that much material compared to what I've heard from my friends who have taken other profs for Econ 102. Everything he talks about is straight from the book. Take his class if you want an easy A. You won't regret it.
