All Ratings and Reviews for Lothar von Falkenhausen
This class has a ridiculous amount of reading. It was to the point that no one I knew kept up with the reading. The professor is obviously very passionate about the subject personally, but he is not great in making the class interesting for most of the non-art history majors. If I could do it all over, I would never have taken this class. Don't take this class unless you are realllllllllly interested!
Prof. v. Falkenhausen is always kind and helpful to his students. He's also the most intelligent person I've ever come across and UCLA is lucky to have him. If he says 'uh', it may be because he's thinking in several languages at once or possibly trying to explain complex material in a way that Neanderthals who leave their phones on in class can understand. Whatever you learn from him will be worth your while.
I enjoyed professor falkenhausen's class as time progressed. At first, I was rather bored in lecture and felt dissapointed in the class. However, if you keep up with the readings you understand a lot more of what he is talking about, which makes the class a lot more interesting. I talked to him after class once, and he spent a good 20 minutes just hearing my input and actually added some of my questions in his next lecture. He definetely is passionate about his subject and if you take the time to talk to him outside of class, you will amazed at how insightful and understanding he is. I strongly suggest taking his chinese art history class if you're willing to keep up with the work and make use of his office hours.
Professor von Falkenhausen obviously loves the topic and is very knowledgeable but he's just not a good lecturer. His lectures were very hard to follow and not too engaging. I kept falling asleep. There was a bit too much reading. The class is not that hard, but I regret taking it, as I found the material very boring and don't feel I learned much. So only take the class if you are really interested in the subject.
Professor von Falkenhausen is a very educated man; he knows a large amount and can speak a myriad of languages. However, he can tend to drone on some times and it can often be difficult to understand. I would only recommend him if you really are interested in the subject.
Decent professor. You catch information here and there, but do not come late or leave your phones on. It's really disturbing when he gets so upset over these things. Actually, its just scary.
I totally agree with the person below me 100%. I will be happy if I never see another ding vessel for the rest of my life!
He's a VERY SMART guy, all we needed to do was write two 5 page papers one of final one for M-term! ( how much earier can could it get??) as long as you talk to him before writing, talk to him about your topic, you will do just fine!!!I got my first A at UCLA from this guy!!
This guy is a horrible teacher. His lectures are boring and unorganized. He spends half the time saying, "Uh..Uh...Uh..." He flashes slides up and then "forgets" to talk about them. He does not look like he knows what he's doing. Try to avoid him if you want to learn.
