Mr. Kaplan is one of the finest violinist and violin teachers in America. His extensive knowlegde of every single physical aspect in playing the violin is awesome. He is a tool every violinist should try and use sometime in her life. I highly recommend this professor to everyone who aspires to be a violinist.

he's a great violinist, but when it comes to teaching, he needs work. many students feel stupid in front of him because of his blunt put-downs. he may seem to care, but many see that as a facade.

kaplan is a miracle worker! his incredible talent for honing in on exactly why you are having problems with what you are trying to accomplish both technically and artistically is unsurpassed. he molded me into a better violinist every single lesson. no time spent with him is wasted. don't ever try to bullshit a lesson, though, becuase HE KNOWS. just be straight forwawrd all the time. he'll respect that.

As an aspiring musician, it is imperative to have a well rounded resource like Kaplan who still regularly performs in addition to teaching; by maintaining a perpetual link to the stage as well as to the studio, he offers the perspective of an active performer that many teachers who have diminished their concert schedules simply cannot deliver. Additionally, Mr. Kaplan displays a remarkable understanding of a broad and eclectic range of music extending far beyond the violin reperatoire in which he specializes. Kaplan is part violinist, part musician, and part intillectual, and he exudes all three in his teaching. Many students mistakenly take his relatively blunt criticisms personally: the fact that he expects all of his students to exceed themselves, however, is purely a reflection of how much he cares. And frankly, if you can't take a little bit, you don't belong in music.
