All Ratings and Reviews for Michael Sproul
I thought it was an easy class. I got A's on all the quizzes and A on the final. I ended up with a 96% in the class, and professor Sproul gave me a B+. I guess the curve was that high. He's a pretty good professor, clear & concise. All his lectures are podcasted and all the quizzes and the final are based on lecture, so there's no need to buy the book. It's just that his grading scale is a bit harsh.
Great professor. If you are having trouble go to his office hours and he will help you but overall if you can understand the in class examples you will do fine.
well, i guess i'm the only person here that wasn't crazy about him... i think that's mostly because i'm just not into econ. i didn't do well in this class, and i'm not an idiot (3.7 GPA). he was very good at explaining and is very open to answering questions, but i think the fact that he didn't make the subject very interesting (coupled with his monotone voice) bored me and gave me little incentive to work hard in this class. so in my opinion, this is not an easy A. you do have to review and take notes, etc. and even though i didn't do well, i'm sure others can do much better because he actually is quite thorough and accessible.
Professor Sproul was great. The best thing about his class is that it is podcasted, so I was able to watch certain parts multiple times. Some of the graphs could be overwhelming at first, and this really helped in understanding the concepts. He had some very interesting ideas, and his class was very straightforward, no tricks. The class itself was mostly conceptual, with basic math required to figure out a specific answer. I would take a class with Sproul again without hesitation.
Never taken Sproul or even set foot on a California campus. I discovered him in 2007 when he was debating on the mises.org blog and discovered the backing theory that way. I've read all of his papers, he is the Einstein of modern monetary economics, people just don't realize it yet.
Mike Sproul is an effecitve teacher as far as his lectures are concerned. He is clear. But his exams are really hard. You screw up on any one exam and it is better you drop the class and get your refund back. His exams are tricky. He does not teach Game Theory which I thought was part of Econ 101. Also, it is better if you attend all his classes. If you want a hard but effective teacher who is not available most of the time then I highly recommend you to take him.
Prof Sproul is an excellent professor.. compared to other econ professors that I've had class with, he's the easiest. Totally take a class with him
This professor is the best!.. His summer course for econ1 is cake.. do not buy the book! His tests are purely from his notes. I studied an hour before each quiz.. and couple hours for the final and got an A+. He is very nice.. very good lecturer and is the best teacher for econ 1. Take him in the summer!!
This professor is definitely not as easy as his ratings say he is. I took him over the summer and his class seemed okay. Right before the final I had like an A- and then after the final I suddenly had a C. I know I could not have done that badly on the final but he never even emails you your grade and I'm sorry but I don't have all the time in the world to drive all the way down to UCLA during his office hours. His quizzes and the final are multiple choice and short answer but the multiple choice questions are very tricky.
the grading system is a little wacked. there's three quizzes and if you miss one, he averages out your two other quiz scores and sets that as the missing one. So, if you did well on the first two quizzes that's great for you, but it kind of messes up the curve for everyone else. if there's a better and more interesting professor teaching, pick him over sproul.
