PHILOS 22W Submitted April 1, 2008 Grade Received: N/A

I just finished taking Philosophy 22W with Hieronymi, and I must say that I was pleasantly surprised. After reading the reviews I expected to be committing GPA suicide, but I ended up getting an A in the class. Look, the class was hard, but if you studied, went to lectures, and office hours to talk to your TA before turning in papers, it was quite reasonable. Although I ended up with an A, there were only three people in the class, other than myself, who did so, and there were 80 people in the class. If you are interested in the subject, then by all means take the class, you will get alot out of it. She does a good job of preparing you for her tests, some of the questions were almost word for word from lectures. I would recommend her, but only if you are ready to work for an A, and are not expecting one to be given to you.

Definitely a BORING professor. I only suggest taking her class if you are a philosophy major, or you have no other choice of classes (like me).

The comment about the papers below is completely accurate. Hieronymi can also be cold if not condescending towards students. Avoid at all costs.

This is a warning. Stay Away.

I feel really bad giving my true opinion about this class because i'm sure this prof. tries, but i do owe it to the students of UCLA to tell the truth. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! i remember thinking that intro to ethics sounded like it would be a great class--really interesting...and i'm sure it could be if taught by the right person, but this is absolutely the worst prof i've had in my entire life. i'm sure she's a really nice lady, but probably the worst lecturer in the world. It's ironic because all the philo ta's empahsize SOOOOOOOOOOO much how you need to write "clearly", but they all talk sooo confusingly. the prof will always refer to "that" and "it" and you have no idea what the hell she is talking about. also after our first essay, she told the ta's they needed to grade harder, which really made me mad because i doubt she even read any of our papers. Please believe me, DONT TAKE THIS CLASS from pamie...wait for another prof to teach it!!!!!!

I really do not want to sound mean, but this professor is by far one of the worst at UCLA. She stumbles over ideas, confusing the students. She asks the class: "Is that clear?" and she expects someone to raise their hand and say what? "Uh, I have no idea what you've been talking about for the past 30 minutes." She is so unclear and extremely difficult to understand and follow during her lectures. Her teaching style needs a serious overhall.

This class was extremely boring and difficult. Her lectures were ineffective and the reading was hard to grasp. I had to attend her office hours to help clarify the information she gave us in class. Although I am sure she is a brilliant person, she cannot teach. Hopefully in time she will get better.

I'm writing this review after our final grades posted, after i submitted the review below. The only thing difficult about this class is the style of writing H expects from you. Simply put, write to a three year old. See spot run. See spot stop. Seriously, its the only way to get a A. Get a hold of someone else's A/A- paper. Good luck!

Metaethics is by no means an easy topic, but Professor Hieronymi did an excellent job at making the subject tangible. She was also extremely approachable and always very open to questions and/or comments throughout her lectures. She provides comments on the first paper, in order to help you think more critically for your second paper. Additionally, she accepts a rough draft for the second paper which I found incredibly helpful. She does not have unrealistic expectations and as long as you do your work, you will do well in the class. I would highly recommend her to any fellow UCLA students.

The most boring and worst teacher I had at ucla so far. Her lecture are horrible! The TA does most of the grading. The class has two paper due, and hard final.
