Never saw Professor Wen's face. It was taught by another person.. assuming it's a TA. Honestly, from how hyped this class is and how everyone said it was sooooo easy, DON'T BELIEVE THEM. It was honestly the hardest class ever. My TA expected so much of me and the prompt were vague. The workload was heavy. Unfortunately, my TA graded harshly, so I guess I can see why some people think this class may be easy. Maybe I just had a bad luck with professors. If I knew it was this hard, I should've taken a class that I actually enjoy or have an interest in. I guess that's also my fault for having such a high expectation on the level of difficulty in this class. Good luck y'all! Hopefully, you guys will get a good TA.

SELLING SCAND50/50W MATERIALS! INCLUDES NOTES THAT WILL GUARANTEE YOU AN A. SAVES YOU HELLA WORK

-Course Reader
-Hunger by Hamsun
-The Shadow by Hans Christian Andersen
-Naive.Super by Erlend Loe
-The Dwarf by Par Lagerkvist
-Anecdotes of Destiny by Isak Dinesen
All are in excellent condition.

I'll also throw in very helpful, detailed summaries of every single book (also includes key themes that you need to write about on exams) as well as my notes from class + my midterm.

I can also give you advice on the format of his midterms, how to get an A, what he looks for in essays, etc.

I took this class during c session and never saw Prof. Wen's face. The class was a ~20 person discussion taught by, I'm assuming, a first year TA. He was really nice but didn't know how to foster discussion and often ended up just giving us the answers, which was convenient, I guess. You are expected to read a lot each week and the final paper was pretty hard considering how poorly written the prompt was but I got 100% on it (lol). So yeah, I guess it's easy but soo not relevant to anything in my life so it's hard to take the class seriously/ give a shit.

Contrary to belief, SCAN50 W is quite different from SCAN50. Because it's a writing II class, what is demanded from the students is actually much higher. I had a tough but good TA and it wasn't easy to get the A. I expected much less and easier work because of how much people raved about this class, but to be honest, if you're not used to writing literary analyses, this can be a challenge.

One of the EASIEST classes at UCLA! Readings are short and interesting. Go to discussion for the easy points!

Midterm is an in class essay which you could redo later and get a higher grade.

Final was a take home essay.

SUPER easy to get an A.

I took this during Session A, and I have to say this is the easiest class I've taken at UCLA. I took the writing intensive class, but in all honesty my other, non writing GE's required more writing than this. There are no TA's so Wen does all the grading himself, and he's pretty lenient. His comments on the rough drafts are through email and aren't too detailed so if you want a better idea of how to improve I would recommend office hours. The trial (10%) was easy points as long as you talked. The talk show(10%) didn't happen because he forgot to email us the description so he basically just gave the class full credit for it. He said there would be pop quizzes to test that we did the reading but he ended up never giving us one. He passes around an attendance sheet every class period, but ever if you're late you can still sign it at the end of class. The classroom we had wasn't equipped for multimedia, so instead of watching movies on Friday class was canceled and we were asked to view them on our own time. The essay prompts were always easy to respond to and went well with the readings and Wen's analysis in class. Definitely recommend this class, especially during the summer when there aren't TA's.
