All Ratings and Reviews for Richard Yarborough
One of the best professors that helps put into perspective the power of literature and its real-world implications outside of the text. He helped me understand the Black struggle in ways that I would not have otherwise understood if it were not for his class. Take him. It's not just a classroom.
YARBOROUGH is one of the two best professors i have taken during my college career. his lectures are intense and are impossible to miss. he treats students fairly and his TA are good graders.
Professor is passionate about his subject matter, fair and straightforward with papers and tests, and he truly knows what he's talking about. of all my prof's at ucla so far, he has been the best one.
He is extremely knowledgable about his subject matter, and explains concepts in a straightforward manner without dumbing them down.
Awesome professor!!! Workload is fair, very knowledgable professor, tests are straightforward, and just an overall great course to take!!!
Yarborough is one of the best professors at UCLA. I've never seen a professor pay so much attention to his students' work. He is passionate about the material and understanding and receptive toward the opinions of his students. I highly recommend this course and would take any other class with Yarborough.
What else need be said but this guy's got it. The English department at UCLA has an outstanding faculty that concentrates on teaching over research and Yarborough embodies that philosophy. What you've read below was my experience as well--great communicator, clear on his expectations, available to talk inside and outside of class... in sports, you hear about players who "can do it all." As a professor, Yarborough is excellent in every respect.
Of all the profs I've taken in four years at UCLA, this is by far one of the best. Yarborough is the first prof I've seen that can fill an entire two hour class with lecture and make it fly by. He is so intelligent and knowledgeable that he is truly a pleasure to listen to. Tests are completely straightforward as is the paper-- go to class and pick up on his key points and you're bound to get an A AND insight-- a combo you don't often come across here. Highly recommended.
I really liked Prof yarborough on a personal basis. However, when I registered for this class, I was under the impression that it was called the "American Political Novel" NOT the "African-american concerns course"...Out of 7 books assigned, 5 of them had to do with slavery and/or the civil rights movement. There is so much more that could have been covered but was overlooked by Yarbrough's interest in African-american history.
