I don't really get all the bad reviews for Reise. This class was super easy. The free online textbook was extremely helpful. I went to most of the lectures, but honestly could probably have done without them since he basically just reviewed the textbook. The slides were sometimes confusing due to typos. In class, they used a system where people can submit questions that the TAs would give to him and he would then answer, which worked really well for me. Reise cracks some jokes every now and then in an attempt to not make the class super dry.

The material was very manageable, and we were provided with a pre-made cheat sheet which helped a ton. Outside of completing the textbook, I put in very little effort in this class and aced most quizzes and ended up with ~99% in the class. If you've taken AP Statistics, this class will be a breeze.

This class was a lot tougher than other reviewers made it seem. A lot of things were different this quarter, there were two grading scales for this class: 20% of your final grade was completion of homework (which takes roughly 2-3 hours if you do it correctly), 40% were the five quizzes spaced throughout the quarter, and 40% was the final exam, alternatively there was 20% homework, 10% quizzes, and 70% the final. Another difference was the work for this class was completely online (including the in-class quizzes and the in-class final).
This class was a lot of work, in order to complete the homework one had to read one section of the online book and get 100% for all the exercises within the interactive textbook (which oftentimes glitched and did not say 100% or would completely erase a section, and if you emailed the TAs about this, you still got a 0 for that assignment). This could take up to 3 hours.
Professor Reise did not make the time for students that he had in previous quarters, he did have office hours, however, he was often not there when I attempted to contact him.
One of the TAs was absolutely horrible, she would not take the time to answer questions during discussion sections (optional Friday sections) and if she deemed a question worthy of a response, answered it vaguely and with as much attitude as possible. The other TA did her best to pick up the slack and was sweet and took time and care to answer questions, or would take the time to ask Professor Reise if she was unsure.

Take this class. This is probably the easiest class I've taken at UCLA and I put in maybe 5% effort into this class. After two lectures I realized Professor Reise is useless so I didn't attend a single class since. Every two weeks you have a quiz and I would study 20 minutes before the quiz and end up with 90%. There's weekly hw online which takes maybe 2 hours max and its based on completion so you can breeze through it by BS'ing. The final didn't feel like a final because it was pretty basic and I think maybe 20% of the final was extra credit. Take this class if you like not doing any work

So I did not enjoy Dr. Reise's teaching style whatsoever. You could tell that he knew the stuff well, but just could not communicate what he wanted to say to students. His slides often had wrong numbers and calculations, so actually trying to decipher what was going on was usually impossible. He does try to help as much as he can, but most of the time the questions he answers makes everyone more confused. The saving grace in this class was one of the TAs - Erin Arruda, she was honestly amazing!

Nonetheless, I would still recommend taking Reise, because there isn't an easier professor! There are two midterms and a final (each are 25%). The first midterm is the hardest because it asks about concepts, the second and the final are basic computational statistics problems and so were much easier. There are 16 quizzes (all 16 total to 10%) and 15% of the final grade is participation. It is straight scaled so you just have to know your stuff really well!

Reise will ask you to buy a new edition $160 textbook with internet access. Forget that, buy the older edition of the same textbook on Amazon (I did this and it saved me $150). The new textbook is really unnecessary, the old one provides you with all the same stuff, just without the internet exercises. Take it with Reise!

Professor Riese really goes out of the way to help his students. He sets up Skype sessions (which I don't think anybody made use of) and even made "Talking Points" (powerpoint slides with mini lectures) for additional help before the Final. The class content itself was difficult but if you read the book and do the the practice quizzes on the book's website, you'll be fine. During the Midterm 2 and Final, Professor Riese gave everyone 10 points out of 40 for free because his mom said to do so to celebrate Mother's Day. To give you some perspective, about 40% of the class got an A in his class. Take it with Riese, trust me.

Sometimes although you may get confused by the terms in the lecture, but it is totally resolvable if you read the textbook in advance. Generally, it is a pretty easy class and the final is actually 25% of the grade, two midterms, each 25% and participation 15%, online quiz 10%. Take it with Reise!

It was a very easy class if you do all of the reading and use the online practice material. The midterms and final was very straight forward. There is only one really clear right answer.

I cannot believe UCLA puts every Psych student through this BS.
They force us to take statistics and then allow mediocre professors that elevate the difficulty of the class to teach them. And it's all done so we can fail the psych major requirements and change our major to some crap like gender studies. So if you are going to take 100A know that it is designed to make you fail. It's pretty simple, but it's also the type of thing that frustrates the hell out of you.
First of all, there is no way of knowing what is going to be on the 3 exams. They give you a study guide with "learning goals" that are so general, they can practically summarize an entire chapter in one sentence.
There are free response questions on the exams that if you're lucky you will get 5/10 correct. Even if you know the exact answer, somehow it will be completely off because they wanted you to structure the sentence in a particular way and use a specific vocab word.
There are quizzes online, one per class session. And they are HARD.
You have to read the entire textbook (i think it was $130), do all the online assignments, do the Personal Trainers, memorize the slides, and get tutoring then mayyybbeeee you will get a B.
This class is the embodiment of hell, but I don't blame Reise or Jaffe, I just blame UCLA for putting us through this.

Very... interesting professor. As said, poor lecturer but great personality. Tries very hard to make his lectures funny and enjoyable. 3 midterms (last one is a final, but still graded as a midterm), which are all very easy if you study the textbook and his slides. It was really as simple as that.

This professor is... interesting.
I took him for Psych 100a and I have a pretty decent background in stats already.

He IS NOT a difficult teacher at all. His midterms and final were all multiple choice and not very challenging BUT BUT BUT!!!!! he is TERRIBLE at teaching the material (and very very boring to listen to omg). so be prepared to learn the material on your own (i for one sat in on jaffes lectures instead of my own) because he makes the material very boring and teaches it in a much more complicated way than it needs to be taught..
