Prof. Plann is one of the most caring professors I had at UCLA. Her lectures are very well organized and clear. She definitely knows the material well. Her exams are clear and concise. If you like linguistics, you will benefit from taking this class with her.

she is one of the most active professors i met in the department. academics are important but she recognizes the importance of academics and real life. even though she is not a native, she is very concerned about the latino community and a big advocate for their well-being. her passion has inspired me and my future career.

this particular class helped me start off my personal statement for grad school.

highly recommended!

In her linguistics class, Plann spends the first half of the class discussing teaching methods for 2nd language learning. This section is really easy. The second half is much harder, concentrating on grammatical stuff like indirect objects, dative of interest, etc. She explains this stuff really clearly, but don't miss a class because she goes really fast!

Professor Plann is amazing. She is very community-oriented and inspiring. She is interested in applying her students' abilities in Spanish language to a community that really needs them. Her Latinos and Literacy course changed my life.

Prof. Plann embodies the unlikely mix between your typical encyclopedic academic buff and a very hands-on, personable, and humanitarian individual. She is concerned with what is happening in the world beyong the neat little UCLA cosmos. She will give you academic research type readings but will spend a great deal of time discussing their practical implications, and getting you involved in the discussion. If you attend class religiously and do the work she assigns, she has no problem with giving you an A. She is also very approachable outside class, and loves to learn about your plans and interests. But more importantly, you will come out of her classes with new perspectives, and with a sense that you have invested your time wisely and productively.

Excellent professor! Professor Plann is by far the best professor I've had at UCLA. She is very organized and her lectures are amazing! The first half of the quarter she set up groups of students to present the chapters that we would talk about during the week. After the midterm which was very straight forward (nothing like those horrible multiple choice exams),she continued to lecture and the final exam was also very straight forward. She is always available during her office hours and a very nice person to talk to. I highly recommend Professor Plann.

The professor was unorganized in her lectures and didn't tolerate electronic notes. Many times it was difficult for the class to feel comfortable to participate, it was an awkward setting to be in. Did not tolerate tardiness in anyway, she doesn't even have sympathy for mental health appointments. Possibly believes her class is the most important one here at ucla but won't even communicate with her students.
It was also awkward for a class that is about undocumented students and our difficult experiences to be shared with a woman who wasn't relatable in that way. Its an easy class, but overall, I would stay away from the professor.
