He is by far the best teacher I have taken at UCLA. I am switching my majors not only because I loved the class material, but because he is such a good professor and made me love geog! Definitely take him! He is very approachable, makes the class fun, and laid back. There is a midterm and a final...lots of information, so take good notes (basically everything he talks about), memorize, and you'll do great. What is on his study guide is on the test. You go on field trips and it's a blast!

By far Gillespie is the most entertaining lecturer at UCLA. He is also one of the most concerned about student learning. Even at 9am he has his class laughing and taking in information. Fieldtrips (during class) around campus are a great learning tool and a fun break from the classroom. Also if you're looking to do an independent study, Gillespie is "totally down" to support you.

Professor Gillespie is the most entertaining lecturer ever. He is always energetic and hilarious when he teaches and really engages the class during lectures. The information he teaches is useful and interesting. His tests were straightforward and not very difficult. I highly recommend taking this class.

Good:
- Interesting lectures
- Nice review sheets for midterm and final
- Relatively easy exams
- Fun projects that arouse your subject interest
- Nice and friendly personality
- Extremely humorous
- Always available outside class

Bad:
- Lecture materials / notes are pretty random
- Materials are never from required text (only from lectures)
- Require a lot of memorizing (species terms)

Prof. Gillespie is more like a friend. He is concerned about his students and he always tries his best to explain concepts. But his lecture notes are pretty random. It's nothing from the textbook, just stuff that he thinks is important to know. Exam questions are always straight-forward. No tricky questions.

Professor Gillespie is the funniest, most effective, and caring professors I've ever met. His teaching style is slow and steady, and he always adds in funny stories to go along with the material. If you just study the study guides he hands out before the exams, you'll definitely get an A. There's not really much reading or homework, but there were three projects (not too difficult, but kind of time consuming).
