The Spanish TAs here at UCLA are all horrendous. If you can, take it at a community college or elsewhere. The work is more than abundant and some tests are impossible because of the lack of adequate teaching. You really do not learn much from the TAs, who are the ones teaching these classes.

I really do not get all these bad reviews. Profesor Powell is available to help outside the classroom WHENEVER you ask her, and she asks for student feedback about what you want to learn. She's a fair grader on compositions also. She's really nice and will help you with anything you need help on, not even Spanish stuff. Definitely take her class!

A nine year old starving ethiopian could have taught the class better

I don't know if I would go to the extremes that other people have written. True, she is a sub par teacher for any level (high school, middle school, elementary, whatever), but she did sort of try. She is very into keeping everyone confused as to what to expect. I am surprised that she is still a faculty member, but it sounds like that should change soon.

Tiffany Powell is synonymous with tyrant. I would honestly rather have slammed my head into a desk every day than attend her class. She is unimformative and deceptive. Be forewarend.

I ended up in Powell's class probably because God was punishing my many sins. However the punishment hardly seemed justified. The class was torturous beyond what you can imagine. She runs the class like a maniacal dictator who vehemently oppresses the students.

If I have one more teacher like Powell I will transfer out of UCLA...

Horrid. A simply intolerable form of a human being, with little to no skills as a teacher. If you can, take Spanish with a monkey before Powell. She makes everyone feel like imbeciles, leaves the students with nothing more than resentment towards education.

Every day spent in this class was like having major dental work done. Prof. Powell was neither knowledgeable nor reasonable - the native speakers in our class had to correct her on several occasions and her grading was completely random. Also, she has this weird thing about not telling you what the homework assignment is if you had missed class or simply forgot...she absolutely refuses to let you know! You have to call someone else in your class to find out about the assignments. That's just petty.
