yeah he can give pretty interesting lectures and all that. but can someone say memorization overkill. took him for c109 and might i say you never know what to expect on his tests. you have to know everything!! but he is a funny professor and deep down i think he has some concern about student learning.

He makes the subject very interesting and his lectures are always very colorful. He uses a lot of props in class, very hands-on. The lectures are easy to understand.

WHOA! This class was SO hard but SO amazing. The hard part is that it is WORK. The reading is extensive (if you are taking this class in the the book early and read ASAP). There is a major emphasis on vocabulary, so it is like learning a foreign language on top of a lecture and lab class. His exams are hard but the curve is enormous. This class had an amazing ability to establish relationships with other classmates and TA's and faculty. We all felt like one big family after the final. Take this class with a light load. Being an ATA really helped me learn the material, and helped me get an A. (Yes, there were lots of A's.)

He is a pretty good lecturer, the only thing I did not like was that there was so much work. We had homework due twice a week and we covered the entire textbook, something very unusual for a class on the quarter system. THere was at least one midterm but it was all multiple choice (a little confusing). But during 10th week and finals, there was a research paper due (for a BIO class?), a lab final and a lecture final. Keep in mind that this class does not count for a lab class. Not a good elective class to talk but Hamner makes it pretty interesting.

Lectures were difficult to follow and it took a long time for him to make a point or teach a concept; he was not very effective as a teacher. He also had favorites in the class, so it seems like if you are not taking any other classes and if you have time to visit him outside class or work for free in his lab, he will love you and know your name. Trees of handouts to read!
