I never interacted with Professor Worger once during the whole quarter. All the lectures are pre recorded and personally I don't even know if he had office hours and even if he did I would not have gone. You really do not need to watch any of the lectures to pass. Weekly quizzes give you 2 attempts and it tells you which ones you get wrong, so it should be easy to get 100% on those. The best thing about the class is the readings. I did not read any of the books (they are required for the essays, but not necessary to score well). However the readings from the book Professor Worger put together were amazing. They were all super interesting and helped me learn a lot about african history. Also, the TA Lisa Kahn was really sweet and accommodating for us in her section, so if you get her I recommend it. Overall, take this for an easy GE.

Honestly, Worger added nothing to this class. During covid, he prerecorded all lectures, then used them for Spring and Fall quarter. I had no interaction with him at all. My TA Galaan Hayle was very knowledgable, and I enjoyed his discussions very much. He added a lot to the weekly readings. The other TA Lily Hindy was also great at discussing readings, and I've loved her teaching in other classes before. Worger's assignment prompts were terrible! The essays I wrote for him, I'd hate to grade because they were so boring. He thinks piazza posts will "build community" or something, but they were useless. Everything I gained from this class was from the TA's or readings.

EASY GE. Honestly, this was my primary reason for taking this class. I was looking to boost my GPA and this was one of the most recommended classes. I took 4 classes this quarter amidst the global pandemic and I still found this class to be one of the easiest. Aside from that, this class was sooo incredibly interesting! Worger and his amazing team of TA's were super educated on the topics discussed and ensured time for students to vocalize their thoughts and engage in deeper thinking via discussion sections. I am happy I was able to have had my TA in her last quarter at UCLA. The class has tons of simple assignments that take less than 5 minutes but add "fluff" to your overall grade. The bigger assignments are interesting and not difficult. I would definitely recommend taking this class.

Additionally, regarding Professor Worger's character, you can tell he is an individual who cares about his students and their lives. Given the recent tragic death of George Floyd, Prof. Worger did not hesitate to give his students accommodations as well as voice his opinion on the issues. It's always amazing to see a professor so engaged.

This class was really easy and also really interesting. The grading distribution is extremely generous (an A- is 85-89, A is 90-94, A+ is 95-100). As long as you do the assignments and participate and show up to discussion you are almost guaranteed an A+ in this class. The assignments were also relatively short and engaging. Every other week we had a small piazza post assignment which would take around 15 to 20 minutes and on the weeks where we didn’t have to post to Piazza we would have to write a longer assignment; however it was still relatively simple. We had one paper for this class, but we were supposed to have two with the final. The professor kindly gave everyone full credit on the final because of the protests and the situation we were all facing.

HIST 10B is an easy online class, would definitely recommend. There are weekly online discussions, and you just need to show the TA that you're familiar with that week's topics. The assignments were very easy and did not take a lot of time to complete. As long as you stay on top of the deadlines and submit your work on time, you will do well in this class. There are transcripts of the online lectures too in case you find yourself short on time and need to run through the lecture quickly.

Class is completely dependent on the TA. The class was very interesting, but the TA graded as if this was an upper division major requirement. Completely subjective grading (creativity?) that made the class nearly impossible to get an A. The professor has great reading materials and interesting/eye-opening points made in online lecture. However, discussion was terrible because people did not read and the TA did not foster discussion. Overall, take at your own risk and DO NOT BE AFRAID TO SWITCH OUT OF A BAD TA'S DISCUSSION! I wish I would have switched during week 2 since I knew the TA would be bad, but didn't know how bad until it was too late.

Honestly, all dependent on your TA. Ours graded stupidly hard on essays and it was an actual struggle to get an A. She took off points for not citing exactly correct, and for creativity. How are you gonna take off points for creativity on a history of Africa essay? Ridiculous.

Overall, if you don't get a shitty TA, this class is a breeze.
