Seriously, I don't get some of these reviews. I lived here for two years and had no problems. Linda was quick to send maintenance when I needed something fixed. The one bedroom was pretty roomy for the two of us. The lease said we had to get the apartment cleaned, which we did and guess what, we got the full deposit back. I have to wonder if these other people complaining ever bothered to do that? Anyway, would totally recommend this place because its cheap, super close to campus and the manager and maintenance guy are nice.
Linda is horrible. There were numerous times where I would call her for a simple thing and ask about it very nicely but she would be incredibly rude. While she is initially nice when you are signing the lease, she completely changes her attitude around you once she has your money and security deposit. She will do everything she can to get that security deposit for herself. The apartment is very dirty when you move in and she will blame that filth on you and take your security deposit because of it. She has made it clear that she only cares about making money off of you and if you are wasting her time you are losing her money. I have also heard her talk badly of tenants behind their backs saying how stupid they are etc. Please do not make the same mistake I did by living here. It may be cheap, but you pay for what you get and the lower cost is not worth it.
Be very careful when you move in. List EVERYTHING you see wrong with the apartment.
I failed to list a few things that ended up being $$$$ from my security deposit when I moved out.
Linda took a huge chunk out of my security deposit and threatened to take more as I contested things that were already there before I moved in.
She charged me for a professional cleaning for a dirty bathtub and for stains on the kitchen counter-top that were from the previous tenant. She probably didn't even get them cleaned so she can charge the next victim who moved in.
I lived in a studio on the 3rd level. It was pretty outdated, refrigerator was old, enough hot water for about a 5 minute shower. It was extremely dirty when I moved in. I spent an entire day cleaning the blinds, windows, counter-top, walls, bathroom, floors, carpet, closet... everything. Studios have to pay extra for parking, you should consider just paying extra for a 1 bedroom with parking included. Don't bother with street parking it's not worth the pain.
Privacy issues may be a concern for some of the units as the windows are huge and right by the walk ways. I just kept them shuttered all the time but I couldn't enjoy the little sunlight available to me.
I would definitely not live here again.
This place seems enticing at first with the short distance to campus (especially for south campus people) and reasonable rent. However in my experience here, the management abuses their position to exploit vulnerable students.
When we first moved in the apartment was very dirty even though we were told the place would be cleaned (professionally) before we moved in. My dad and I spent a whole day cleaning the place before we moved in. Another thing to be aware of is this building is too cheap to provide refrigerators to the tenants, you have to buy the fridge from the previous tenants which means if yours breaks you have to pay to get it fixed which, from experience, is not cheap.
While living there things were fixed quickly by the onsite handyman and during our time living there we didn't really have any problems with the management. The biggest problem is the place is directly across from three frats which means it was noisy many nights. A lot of the bedrooms face those frats which accentuates the problem.
My biggest complaint comes from how I was treated during our walkthrough to get our security deposit back. During move in we were told to use command hooks to hang stuff as to not damage the walls. Upon removing the command hooks, they still took the paint off. When Linda (the manger) noticed the marks she wanted to deduct money from our deposit. I tried to argue saying we followed her instructions and the paint still came off. She threatened us "your lease has a clause that allows me to bring in a licensed contractor to fix any problems with the place which will cost you thousands I'm doing you a favor by deducting only a little bit but if you keep arguing I will do that and deduct thousands from your security deposit". After she said that she just walked though the place making deductions where she saw fit and I was powerless to claim that the problems were just a result of wear and tear (which they were). As a whole this complex does not understand the concept of wear and tear and expects the units returned as if no one had lived there, which is unreasonable considering the poor workmanship used in the apartments. In the end we made off with relatively small deductions however it was the way I was treated and the management's lack of understanding toward normal wear and tear that left a sour taste in my mouth. Also this building has a pretty serious mold problem.
If you want a clean apartment and want to be treated with respect I suggest you look elsewhere.
This place may seem enticing at first. Super close to campus, REALLY REALLY cheap. But trust me, Linda is a TERRIBLE landlord. Don't expect to get your security deposit back unless you argue it to the death of you. She will blame you for EVERYTHING, even though if the apartment is cleaner than you had it before. She will charge you for everything, refuses to fix anything legitimate in the apartment. She tried to blame us for the dirty floors, um, I scrubbed ALL the floors down before we moved in, it was disgusting. The apartment looks and was probably built in the 1920's and still hasn't changed. Everything is old and moldy, and its just painted over, nothing is actually new. Surprisingly NO rodents or bugs. But if you want a good living experience, stay away from here. Trust me, I loved my room mates but i will NEVER come back to this place again. I hope sooner or later everyone realizes how terrible of a landlord and apartment this is and they tear it down and build a new one, with a new landlord.
