FLOOR PLANS
Monthly Rent: $3400 - $3700
Its one of the cheaper Westwood apartments for a reason... Im in a 2 bed 2 bath with 4 guys including myself. we each pay $925 a month, which is considerably cheaper than a lot of other places, but the apartment definitely is not the nicest. First off location wise, it is very far away from campus, I live further away than the majority of my friends, its located right next to the Veteran Cemetary. On the bright side, that means that the surrounding area is very quiet which is nice lol. Otherwise the apartment has issues with cockroaches, black mold, faulty fire alarm/carbon monoxide alarms, windows that dont close properly, and scratching paint. NGL i cannot wait to move out lmao. the manager is no longer Eugene, now its this dude named German. German is a homie but he is almost never in the office and its pretty hard to contact him, when you do get a hold of him he does a good job at addressing issues and trying to fix things though, so I have to credit him on that. Honestly if youre trying to save money then maybe this apartment is worth it, otherwise, I would look for other places if possible.
Can't beat the prices here but it's offset by having to deal with the landlord Eugene who I believe no longer manages the place after catching COVID after refusing to mask up during the height of the pandemic. The rooms are very spacious but in general, very outdated.
The building manager Eugene is a fascinating character. On Facebook he has photoshopped photos of him with Gaddafi, Hitler and Kim Jong Un. There's one photo where he's wearing a hat with the Nazi swastika. His relationship status is "complicated".
He is by far the most unpleasant person I've met in California.
The main reasons why I liked this place were that it is spacious and quiet for the price. However Eugene is pretty whack, you have to tip toe around him and stay on his good side. I think generally if you’re nice to him he will be nice back, although we had some issues on occasion. Make sure you always ask for the receipt when you pay by check - he once forgot that he had deposited a check that we turned in and accused us of never giving him the check. Our balcony was directly across from his and we would smoke weed outside and he never gave us any trouble for that, so at least there’s that.
Eugene is a dictator, but if you know that going in, you will come to appreciate how tightly he runs his ship. My ex and I paid a ridiculously low (compared to market rate) rent even if the apartment itself is dated. If you plan on having parties or groups of people consisting of three or more people, you should look elsewhere. Living here is not for people who are social or confrontational; it is best to avoid any needless scuffles with Eugene. If you treat him fairly and honestly, he will do the same.
Eugene (the manager) will probably hold your deposit even though you did not damage your apartment. Also these apartments at 655 Kelton are all contaminated with bugs. Also if you don't smile when you pass by Eugene's office then he will probably start screaming at you. Don't go here unless you don't care at all about how you live. Also a mental evaluation is probably needed after living here if you survive. These guys had more health inspections done on their apartments for health complaints than any other building around. Elevator is also not fully functional. I have no idea how they are allowed to have their apartments like this.
Eugene bullied my daughter and any guest that has visited her apt. He was horrifying to me when I met with him. He was disrespectful and spoke terribly about my daughter to my face . He didn't like her and now he is lying to keep her deposit .
I called him several times and he is never in his office . Opens the door and just walks in to the apt and tells my daughter that is his right. He has been disrespectful to me the parent on several occasions and hung up the phone while I am still talking. He lid and said there was trash in the apt but he didn't know that we took videos of how flawless it looked because we didn't trust him. He lied to my face after we had a verbal agreement and hes doing it again . Very unprofessional and I would never recommend anyone to let their child live there .
I lived here 2016-2017 and it was the most miserable experience. The landlord is the most unpleasant man I have ever encountered and like all the reviews below me state, he is a menace and you are better off living elsewhere paying a little extra. He literally does not allow any guests, so if you want to bring one person over even if you want to study LOL forget about it because he is going to chase them out of the building. He literally once told me that I cannot bring people over incase they are carrying 'bombs' with them to blow up his precious dungeon looking piece of crap of an apartment complex. There are so many times I have walked through the garage just so that I don't bump into him at the lobby. The apartment is very old and ill maintained so the elevator did not work 6 out of the 9 months I lived there which was an absolute pain because I had to climb 4 flights of stairs every time this happened. Additionally, my roommates lived in filth so that did not help either. I had packages delivered to me and have had them go missing EVERY SINGLE TIME. I did not share this misery alone, almost everyone I spoke to who lived there had their packages stolen. Soon I had to have them delivered elsewhere for me to go pick up later which was such an inconvenience. I would avoid this place at all costs, although the rent is cheap and it is very spacious, it is not worth ruining an entire year of your college experience living here.
I lived in 655 kelton for the year 2015-2016, and I'd like to advice pple who are thinking of living here to avoid this place. The landlord, Eugene totally has no respect for people at all. He talks to students in a rude manner to show he is the boss. He would shout and hurl vulgarities for small mistakes. I wonder how he can live in society with that kind of attitude. I don't think he would be able to find a decent job anywhere else and I don't know why the company doesn't fire him despite all the bad reviews. Don't be enticed with the cheap rent. It is more worth it to live in a slightly more expensive apartment and save the headaches and frustration.
