Don't believe these reviews. The only accurate thing they said was about a curve. Even then, this class is terrible. The professor is nice but is useless when it comes to receiving help. My TA is horrible- snobby and is not at all helpful when it comes to providing help. I decided to ask the professor for help because the TA was a waste of time and the professor was super vague and not helpful at all.
The assignments are extremely difficult and have NOTHING to do with the lectures. They DO involve a lot of math and the wording is too damn confusing. The professor and the TA themselves tend to send an email clarifying for every assignment. The labs are worse. They are confusing and not clear at all. The mid-term was the exact same thing- it made no sense and the TA's told us to focus on the wrong things and to memorize stuff that was not even on the exam. Overall, a huge waste of time and this class will most likely bring down my GPA. The worst GE I have taken in my 2 years at UCLA!!

definitely recommend brix! :) he lets you use a cheat sheet, and as long as you follow through his slides which are super organized, you can do well in both the midterm and final. i think his midterm and finals are fair, not the typical regurgitation kind of paper, but more of conceptual understanding (since you have a cheat sheet for that). he's really approachable and nice! do take him over the other profs! :):):) for someone who doesn't like science, it is actually very logical and easy to follow! SO TAKE IT NOW! :)

First and foremost, let me say that I'm a junior (Economics major) and I took the time to write my first review on Bruinwalk for this class.

With that being said, I took this class to fulfill my science and lab GE. Overall, the class is enjoyable and not very difficult.

Class: The class is honestly straight forward - Professor Hall is a nice guy and teaches the material on the slides. Everything he goes over will be on the slides which ultimately led me not to attend over 3/4 of the lectures. My class was also not podcasted, but if you study the slides or at least review them you should do fine on the midterm and the HW. This class is really not difficult at all - the topics relate to present day issues so if you have some common sense you'll catch on.

Lab: The best thing about this class that the lab section (1L) doesn't require you to come into class. It's basically a homework assignment and you just do it. My TA was also extremely generous in going over the Lab in discussion and basically guiding you through the lab.

Grade: I got an A. If you take this class, you should get an A as well unless you didn't even try.

He was wonderful. Really funny and such. Go to the test bank and pick up past quizzes of his because the ones he give will have the exact same questions. Got a B in it which I could've improved had I not skipped out on one bit about La Nina and stuff, but if you show up and work you'll be perfectly fine.

Professor Neelin is very, very nice. That said, yes, you will struggle mightily to remain awake during his morning lectures.

However, if you are north campus and you want to get a low-stress science GE out of the way, I cannot possibly emphasize enough that this class is one of the easiest GEs I have ever taken. There is no textbook, so it saves you money, too. The course materials are limited to powerpoint slides that he posts on the website. The handful of homework assignments are essentially free points if you spend a quality hour or so on them. He won't give you a study guide for his exams, but it's irrelevant, because his exams are impossibly easy. If you memorize all of the information on the lecture slides and take quality notes, there is no reason why you should not be able to pass this class with a very good grade.

Speaking as a polysci major, I am normally atrocious at math and science. However, I thought this was a very easy class that covered an interesting topic. Yes, you will need to be learning about scientific information, but it's very general. Plus, the second half of the course mostly covers policymaking aspects of climate change, so it almost feels like a north campus class after the midterm.

Paulson was interesting. Great points, but sometimes very simplistic. Image-oriented powerpoints, easy to understand.

Professor Seibt was an awesome professor. For my first quarter at UCLA, the class was a total breeze and her humor added to the overall lighthearted atmosphere of the class. There was a total of three assignments, all of which were writing-based (not too complicated and graded easily) that we worked on in assigned groups. Other than that, points came from the midterm, final, and participation (clicker questions asked throughout every lecture; not graded on accuracy - only a measure of attendance). I found a majority of the material to be pretty straight forward and definitely manageable for a north campus major taking it as a physical science GE! 10/10 would recommend.
