Fall 2018 - Horrible lab. TA refused to provide adequate help and had the tendency to make it extremely obvious that he thought you were stupid. I suggest taking your lab req with another professor. The assignments are usually flawed and they won't take the initiative to write an email explaining the mistake until the evening before it is due. I agree with the reviews that say it is absurd that we still have to turn in a hard copy of the assignment. These TAs should be banned from "teaching". The assignments were extremely hard and they had nothing to do with our lectures.

Brix as a professor is great. He's clear in his lectures and organized. Climate change on the other hand, is not the most interesting topic. It's not exceptionally difficult, but I would say it requires some studying for the midterm and final. Yes, cheat sheets are provided, but Brix tests on the application of concepts not just pure definitions, so don't underestimate the midterm and final. The homework for the class and for the lab sections weren't too difficult, but I found myself misinterpreting questions several times. Definitely team up with a friend or go to your TA's office hours if you're confused because its not worth losing easy points on. An A is definitely possible, just put some effort into the assignments and study before the tests.

Took this class in Spring 08. Lectures are boring, but his powerpoints are posted online so I manage to learn everything on my own during the midterm and final. The homework assignments are easy but it's always better to work in groups to double check answers. Biggest Advice: form study groups! Because the subject is sometimes hard to grasp it better to study with other people. The midterms and exams are hard. Requires a good amount of studying, but Prof. Hall is really generous with the curve. The subject is really science-y, and involves using the calculator for number calculation so be warned! Had the best TA ever: Sarah K. She cleared everything up and gave additional notes. She's super-TA! For a GE, the material leans toward hard, but what you learn is useful and applicable. So for those who have a genuine interest in this, do take it, but for an easy GE, take GEOG 5. P.S Prof Hall is a really good dresser. Everyone I've ever spoken to about this course agrees

This class is both interesting and entertaining. Mechoso is so funny and adorable. His accent is a little hard to understand, but he makes fun of himself about it and urges students to ask him to repeat things if necessary. I also took the lab with AOS1, which I do not recommend, unless you like a lot of busy work. The labs were nothing more than 5-6 page write ups/essays about a topic mentioned in class. All the research for the write-up was up to you to find independently online or in a book. Although it teaches you a lot, it feels like a waste of time to have to write multiple pages about atmospheric events ... TAKE AOS 1 WITHOUT THE LAB for an easy GE and an entertaining professor

Winter 2020 - This lab class only gave labs every 2 weeks. There was a total of 4 labs for the quarter. This lab is not very time consuming but on the weeks that you are given a lab, you may expect to spend at least 1-2 hours on the assignment. Links were provided on the lab in which we would see a graph or do some reading and then answer the questions on the lab. We were also expected to take screenshots of these graphs to include at the end of the report, before the bibliography. Sometimes the questions were hard to understand but by asking the TAs, it becomes easy to answer them. This lab class was very helpful and reinforced what we had learned during lecture, though, it also extended it by teaching things not taught in lecture.
