Principles of Archaeology
Description: Lecture, three hours; discussion, one hour (when scheduled). Requisite: course 2. Intended for students interested in conceptual structure of scientific archaeology. Archaeological method and theory with emphasis on what archaeologists do and how and why they do it. Consideration of field strategies, formation processes, chronological frameworks, and other crucial principles of archaeological analysis and interpretation. P/NP or letter grading.

Fall 2024 - Professor Schachner is such a cool dude. I loved listening to him lecture. There are three tests (consisting of a few short answer questions) and two short take-home “projects,” and he grades all of these based on his feeling of how well you did. He doesn’t really use points.
