I took this class as a life science major trying to get an easy GE credit and it was pretty easy. I was really surprised by how much I enjoyed this class though, I feel like a lot of professors say they don't want you to focus on grades and just learn but Professor Nelson actually backs that up. He is very clear in lectures, and the exams are not made to try to trick you. I would highly recommend this class to anyone, because a lot of the information from this class changed how I view and navigate the world. Even though this class had nothing to do with my major it was still one of my favorite classes I took at UCLA.

Lauren was a wonderful teacher. Her lectures were always very engaging, and she was very thoughtful in regards to the content, always making sure to allow stuff that isn't necessarily appropriate to be shared to be kept secret, in respect to the various cultural groups' art we learned about. The midterm and final are based on the objects discussed in the class, so as long as you have a hold on all the objects (which is about 6 per week), you will do great on the final. The reading was light as well, and there was a few other assignments to help your grade if you had struggled with the final and midterm. Overall, Lauren was a great teacher and this class, in combination with one other previous art history class taken, made me decide to become an art history major.
