Steel Structures
Description: Lecture, four hours; discussion, two hours; outside study, six hours. Requisite: course 135A. Introduction to building codes. Fundamentals of load and resistance factor design of steel elements. Design of tension and compression members. Design of beams and beam columns. Simple connection design. Introduction to computer modeling methods and design process. Letter grading.

Fall 2022 - Professor English is great. The most responsive professor I've had at UCLA. If you have questions or need help, just email him, he'll respond within the hour. Most of the work comes from the project, make sure you choose a good group so you can split up the work. Frankly the HW questions don't really look like the tests, nor do the book questions. Make sure you look over his in class examples and the midterm/final review he releases to prepare for the tests. Tests aren't hard, they're just a time crunch, he's not really gonna throw any curveballs. Great professor makes a difficult class much more manageable.

Fall 2018 - I took this dude course fall. First of all, there nothing new on his lecture. Everything in his slides . He just read them to you. Secondary which is major problem. This design course has to be learn from his mouth. It means you need keeping asking questions. Especially project. He has his own evaluation on how you learn. Lots of project content not from textbook or lecture. But the problem is that he doesn’t want you to waste his time. So you better to ask good question otherwise no answer. The project has 5 increments 4 people a group very time consuming. TA is useless in this class, cause they won’t answer your question which was the strickly order from him. Midterm is easy but I was screwed by them. The final was really hard. Last thing he appeal to friendly, he was not. If you have to take it , then take it and prepare your grade drop a lot, otherwise choose other design course
