Representations of Indigenous Peoples in Americas

Description: (Formerly numbered Chicana and Chicano Studies 169.) Lecture, four hours. Strongly recommended requisite: course 101. Introduction to different forms of representation of indigenous peoples and their presence in Americas, with emphasis on Mesoamerica and Andes. How indigenous images are expressed, perceived, and constructed at point of contact with Europeans during development of indigenismo and in current period. Discussion of how these relate to Chicana/Chicano identity construction. Letter grading.
