Latinx The Word: Discourses and Expression

Description: Seminar, one hour. Study seeks to understand creative and political dimensions of term Latinx through close readings of ideology. Development of nuanced understanding of Latinx as a contested identity. Application of this framework to variety of social expressions. Examination of how Latinx operates within larger institutions, such as in government and universities. Exploration of how writers, artists, musicians, and other creatives employ Latinx to construct identity. Students engage with mediating Latinx between political and creative expressions, considering how Latinx both creates and is created by these forces. P/NP grading.
