Description: Lecture, two hours; discussion, two hours. Survey of selection of documentary films diverse in genre (advocacy, observational, essayistic, ego document, archival) and subject (war, exploitation, incarceration, ecosystem collapse, revolution, genocide). Discussion of films in their historical and artistic context, and in way they are vehicles for community engagements and social change. P/NP or letter grading.
