Fall 2018 - UGH where do I begin with this class. First they have a weird obsession over Caliban and Ariel from Shakespeare, The Tempest. Second, if I had known how much reading was required I wouldn't have clicked enroll. The clicker questions are based on correctness so if you miss all 3 it's like you didn't even go to lecture because you didn't get the credit for the class. She has a gazillion slides and clicker questions per lecture but makes NONE of them ACCESSIBLE to students. How the heck am I supposed to prepare if I'm sick one day?? OH and you MUST rent/buy/download books every week to read. Yes, you must read a book a week. If you're not a big reader then do not take this class. She co-teaches with her wife and they're both super monotone. They read off the slides and do not make the lectures interesting. The midterm was gruesome. It was DURING lecture. It was questions and writing. I got a B and the reason for this was because of stupid small mistakes. The TA said that if you put amnesia and not HISTORICAL amnesia then you get half a point. UMM excuse me??? The final was a 13ish page paper. It was like 4 pages for one topic and 8 for the other. Discussion was not it. There were weekly 300 word blog posts that you have to do EVERY Sunday based on the reading. They were a huge chunk of the grade too. They offer extra credit by going to these LGBTQ events, take a picture of yourself there, upload it to the blog post and write a 300 word response on the topic. IF YOU WANT TO GET A GOOD GRADE IN THE CLASS AND FINAL YOU MUST DO ALL THE READINGS.

Fall 2024 - This class was initially no work at all pretty much and the teacher was very chill. But at the beginning of the class she said there would be no big tests and only quizzes and projects. The projects depended on your ta because they decide them entirely minus the final paper. The class is super disorganized and you will constantly feel like you are missing something. The quizzes OMG HORRIBLE, she said no big tests but the quizzes took most people 4-7 hours. Huge waste of time because not only do you need to explain concepts but you also need to cite exactly where in the lectures, readings, or textbooks they are. The class has a huge load of readings that honestly don’t make much sense and are way to long for what the class is trying to cover. if you want an easy class this class will do but be aware that the quizzes are ridiculous and you can will have to rely on the group me and people in the class to make sense of what you need to be doing. I have had easier ge classes then this one and would so much rather take others than this again. the whole class has zero organization.

Fall 2024 - This class was frustrating at first but ended up okay. Your grade will 100% will depend on your TA. Class consisted of in person lectures monday, async lectures wednesday, and your respective discussion section. Grade was based on 25% section participation, 25% creative project, 25% "Quiz 1", and 25% "Quiz 2 Essay". Section participation was decided upon by your TA- mine did weekly groups in discussion where you would spend a few minutes collecting notes and turned them in- very easy if you show up. Creative project was part creative project and part short essay- easy if you have a kind TA. Quiz #2 ended up being a short essay which was graded by your TA, but quiz 1 was INSANE. It consisted of 5 MCQ and 15 (FIFTEEN) short answer questions where you had to site one of the readings of lectures in each one and provide significant analysis for your answer. This means fifteen 200ish word answers with evidence you had to find on the spot which was extremely time consuming and taxing (took students about 5-6 hours on average) and you essentially had to do it in one sitting. Ended up being a chill class even though that quiz was insane, cool subject but the prof. is definitely a bit extreme with pushing her own material and ideas through the class but it was cool to learn about as a whole.
