As for it being a one credit Fiat Lux, it was a lot of work. We read four full length books, and wrote responses to all of them and had a five page final paper. The topic was really interesting and it wasn't too difficult, but if you are looking for an easy 1 credit, this is not the right class. Very intelligent professor with interesting viewpoint.

The professor was unorganized in her lectures and didn't tolerate electronic notes. Many times it was difficult for the class to feel comfortable to participate, it was an awkward setting to be in. Did not tolerate tardiness in anyway, she doesn't even have sympathy for mental health appointments. Possibly believes her class is the most important one here at ucla but won't even communicate with her students.
It was also awkward for a class that is about undocumented students and our difficult experiences to be shared with a woman who wasn't relatable in that way. Its an easy class, but overall, I would stay away from the professor.

I took this as a FIAT LUX, and glad I took it. Professor Romero is a super genuine, happy, and informative person. Obviously, this class is not hard at all. The only thing required to pass is one assignment at the end of the quarter. If you identify as a Chicano/a and want to learn more about your culture, then this class will do that. Even if you're not Chicano/a, it is still interesting. Be ready to get political though. Every class turned to a political topic. Overall, easy, interesting class.
