Advanced Modern Chinese for Heritage Speakers
Description: Lecture, three hours; discussion, two hours. Enforced requisite: course 100D with grade of C or better or Chinese placement test. Third-year Chinese for heritage speakers. Not open to students who have learned, from whatever source, enough Chinese to qualify for more advanced courses. Materials selected from contemporary Chinese publications, with emphasis on social sciences. Texts analyzed for their linguistic features and social and cultural background. Readings, compositions, informal debates on topical issues, and oral presentations. P/NP or letter grading.

Winter 2017 - Lovely and caring lady but very intense Chinese course. She teaches the class almost entirely in Mandarin and covers a ton of material. It's very fast-paced... You will learn a lot but will fall easily behind if you don't keep up. The exams are brutal. Make sure your schedule is flexible and dedicate much time to studying otherwise you will burn.
