Reading Dancing, Dancing Poetry: Poetry and Dance in 20th-Century Europe and America

Description: Seminar, three hours. Enforced requisite: satisfaction of Entry-Level Writing requirement. Freshmen/sophomores preferred. Examination of interplay between poetry and dance over first half of 20th century. Consideration of texts and choreography from late 19th century to present, broader relationship between poetry and dance in period, and relationship of both to political and historic events, particularly with reference to gender and sexuality. Letter grading.
