American Women and Comedy

Description: Seminar, one hour. Examination of women American comics from mid-20th century through present. Various ways in which women have been historically marginalized manifests in their comedy in numerous and complex ways. Highlights innovative works of Jackie "Moms" Mabley, Carol Burnett, Alison Bechdel, and Mindy Kaling to view comedy from variety of intersectional perspectives. P/NP grading.
