I attended UCLA more than 10 years ago, and it's nice to know that things haven't changed all that much- namely Dr. Woo is still there and he's ranked as #2 worst professor overall and the #3 least effective professor. He had just replaced Michael J. Werter (who was known for failing 40% of the class, but those who passed considered him one of the best professors for circuit analysis). When I asked Dr. Woo in front of everyone on the 1st day of class if it's true that 40% of us will mandatorily fail his class, his response was: "I won't hesitate to fail 90% of you!" He was kind of funny though, in a politically incorrect kind of way. He had self-deprecating humor toward his own people (either that or he was a self-hater of sorts): on our 1st day of class, he said that most asian (as in "oriental" asian) people are "bannanas": "yellow on the outside, but white on the inside," which was met by collective gasps and gaffes. There is nothing prestigious about having guys like him "teaching" engineering and then failing the majority of the students because the are incompetent at teaching. UCLA School of Engineering really needs to clean house and get rid of profs who only care about their research and put in place profs who are there to PROPERLY teach the material.
