Winter 2024 - YES YES YES, please take this class. If you are looking for a GE requirement, this class is for you. Professor Barry was an amazing professor who listened to her students and made sure the class was not too much work or too difficult for her students. There were no tests and the final was basically a 2 page blog about a topic we discussed during class. The assignments were 2 paragraph assignments, one for the weekly readings (which were very short), one during class, and one during discussion section. Overall, outside of class, I spent about 1 hour a week on the class. It is super light and super interesting as well. I learned a lot through the discussion based nature of the class, and overall the entire teaching staff is super friendly. Oh, did I forget to mention that all the grades are based on completion (but you have to make your writing associated with the topic at hand). Yea, overall this class is awesome and anyone looking to fill up a GE, this class is for you.

Winter 2023 - In short, TAKE IT! Megan is the best. She's caring (you can see how close I feel to her when I'm using her first name to refer to her, and she preferred that), understanding, and not a believer in grades, so if you can come to all sessions and finish the homework (which is not heavy), you'll get an easy and guaranteed A (She doesn't offer A+ though, but that does not hurt your GPA anyways). As a GE, this course is easy and light; as a major/minor requirement, this course is interesting in content and engaging in format, which ultimately drew me to the Education and Social Transformation major. Course and Homework Compositions: - One 2hr lecture and one 2hr discussion per week (They are VERY intriguing! I had 8 AM discussions with her and never missed a single one of them. I even felt sorry when she had to cancel some of them for holidays.) - Two weekly reflections graded based on completion (1 double-spaced page each) - Some readings (provided on bruinlearn so you don't have to pay extra bucks, can be a little bit intense sometimes, but skim reading will be enough) - One blog (1.5 to 3 single-spaced pages) for the end of the quarter assignment, also graded based on completion And that's it! No midterms, no finals, no long AF essays and other kinds of BS. So yeah, TAKE IT if it's offered. You will not regret it.

Fall 2024 - This class is GREAT. If you're looking for an easy class to satisfy the Social Analysis GE this should be it. Although I personally took this as a lower div for my major, there were plenty of students in other majors that were there for the GE or minor req. Now despite that it was a two hour 8 am lecture, they are not mandatory and it's also once a week. Professor Guillén is so compassionate towards all her students. She cares about your opinion and what you have to say, and does her best to make the lecture more discussion based given the sensitive topics surrounding education presented. As for grades, there's only three 1-2 page reflection assignments for the 3 units of the class (preschool, k-12, and higher ed) with multiple prompts you can choose from, and one final 5 page paper or podcast on the topic of your choice, so long as it relates to anything mentioned throughout the quarter. Discussion section is mandatory, but the TA's are amazing! If you can get Micaela Bronstein, she's the best. I believe the two TA's from Fall 2024 will be apart of EDUC 10 team for Winter and Spring quarter as well!

Fall 2023 - This class was very easy. Attendance was only mandatory for discussion, but even then you really don't need to do much for discussion. The lectures were not my favorite, but the professor and TA were nice and helpful. There are readings, but truthfully I feel like you don't exactly have to do it and can just bs your way through this class.
